Law help

If i want a average law job such as family or medical law, does it matter if i go to a russel group uni as i am not in one, also would BBB be acceptable a level grades as i hear you need to have atleast AAB and go to a russel group uni which is making me think i cant do law and should go into something else.

Try to get a first or a high 2.1. Many law firms recruit university-blind, and not all consider A level grades. Good luck!

Hi there,

It’s completely understandable to feel concerned about university prestige and A-Level grades, but the good news is that you do not need to go to a Russell Group university to have a successful legal career in family or medical law. Law firms and chambers recruit from a wide range of universities, and many excellent lawyers have come from non-Russell Group institutions. What matters most is your degree classification (aim for a 2:1 or above), work experience, and practical legal skills.

Your BBB A-Level grades won’t stop you from becoming a lawyer. Many universities accept those grades for LLB courses, and once you’re at university, your degree performance, legal experience, and networking will be much more important than your A-Levels. Some firms might ask for AAB or higher, but there are many routes into law, and a strong university record, combined with experience, can make up for lower A-Level grades.

Are you looking at gaining legal work experience? Getting involved in pro bono work, vacation schemes, mini-pupillages, or volunteering with legal charities will give you an edge and help you stand out to employers. Many firms also value commercial awareness, problem-solving skills, and client interaction experience, which you can gain in a variety of ways.

If law is your passion, don’t let A-Level grades or university prestige discourage you. Hard work, experience, and networking can take you far in this field, and there are many successful lawyers who didn’t go to a Russell Group university. Focus on excelling in your LLB and gaining as much legal exposure as possible, you absolutely can have a career in law!

Hello,
You definitely do not need to go to a Russel Group university in order to be able to get a good law job. A law degree is a law degree regardless of where it comes from and many recruiters will not even look at the institution where your degree is from. You should choose a university where you will be happy, as this will make it more likely that you will be successful in the long term.

Law can be very difficult to get into and often requires higher grades due to the competitive nature of the subject, but you should research different universities to see what their standard entry requirements are. Law is definitely not for everyone and so if you do have doubt don't ignore this, pick a degree you will enjoy as it will be easier to get a better grade. If you are set on a job in law you can always do a law conversion course.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions please do let me know!
