I went to the offer holder day so saw Leahurst (which looks so good 😆) however never went to an open day so didn't see the facilities on main campus. What did you all think of them? 😊

hey! i did quite a lot of WEX (like almost 500 hours) but the best thing to bring to interviews is passion and the want to study the subject and how your experiences have made you more motivated to study it

Hi, I’m looking to apply to Liverpool for 2026 entry. I’m wondering, how much work experience did everyone have? I currently only have 2 weeks clinical and 1 week lambing. Everyone I have seen online has years of experience which is unobtainable for me now. I’m trying to get more experience, how much should I be aiming for? Thankyou!

This is taken from the Liverpool Veterinary Science page (titled How To Apply):

"To apply for the BVSc applicants are expected to have gained a minimum of three weeks (15 days) work experience from the list below.
At least one week needs to be from A or B. If applicants are unable to secure a five-day placement in veterinary practice, then they must complete and evidence a virtual veterinary placement, in addition to the 15 days of work experience.
A) Veterinary Practice
B) Working within commercial animal industry with core species (cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, poultry, dogs, cats, rabbits). Note that core species does not include wildlife or zoo placements. Commercial industry includes, charities, urban and other commercial farms, kennels, stables, rescue centres
C) Working with non-core species (e.g. zoo or wildlife placements) or in a customer-facing role (e.g. within retail, a care home or hospitality industries)."

For Liverpool, this is the minimum.
I got 2 weeks clinical and 1 week lambing like you, plus a week in a stables, a week in a farm, and a week in a cattery. I did some other stuff here and there, but this was the substantial part of my work experience. It's a decent amount but not some of the crazy amounts I saw other people on here talking about!
From what I can gather, the point of the work experience is to give you a good idea about what working in a vet environment will be like (and can give you good ideas for what to talk about in interviews)- it's not necessarily just about the amount you get.
So, get as much as you can, but don't panic if it's not as much as some people on here have been getting! I would also definitely recommend doing the MOOC, even if you don't choose to evidence it as work experience- I personally found it helpful just to find out some general information about the career and options.

Good luck!

oh I havent recieved an email, i only got a message about the days for biology (had that as my 5th option). I’ve got an offer for vetmed from cambridge and liverpool and am waiting to hear back from bristol. hbu?

Congrats on Cambridge!! Just interested to see what you think of the course there/ if you'll go ahead with the offer given the recent scandal of failing to meet 50 out of 77 of the RCVS standards? I'm applying this year/ for 2026 and not sure if I should bother applying to Cambridge with its current rep for its vet school

thank you! Although I was unsure at first, I’ve decided to go ahead and firm cambridge! Recent Cambridge reports have proven they are putting in a lot of effort and funding - so if anything, it might just end up to be the best time to go! On top of that, (I don’t know how much of the report you’ve read), but some things were very pedantic - eg. They were failed a standard because someone didn’t check the tire pressure on a tractor… And, they received amazing comments on the standard of teaching, which is what concerns us the most as students! I’ve spoken to a few vets, and they have all said that a degree is a degree and the RCVS issue will not affect your employability in the future! Beyond that, they said that the specific teaching at cambridge will teach you world-class research skills, so if anything, you will be best suited to the future changes in the career. And of course, name value always matters if you’re thinking international! The Cambridge vet offer holder channel has a lot of info from students too if you wanted to have a look! But overall, if you like the university - go for it! Keep in touch if you need anything! x
