Automotive/mechanical engineering at Warwick, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow

I'm predicted A*AA in Design, Maths and Physics, and I have achieved a B in AS-Level Further Maths, I am also doing an EPQ relating to hydrogen fuel cell cars. I have an Arkwright engineering scholarship too.

I would like to become a mechanical engineer in the automotive sector (JLR, Bentley, etc.) and was wondering which of my courses would be best for me to attend.

I have applied for:

Mechanical engineering with placement at Uni of Manchester - A*A*A - waiting for an offer (don't think I'll get tbh)
Mechanical engineering with placement at Uni of Sheffield - A*AA or AAA with A in EPQ - achieved offer
Automotive engineering at Uni of Warwick - AAA - waiting for an offer
Mechanical design engineering at Uni of Glasgow - BBB - offer achieved

I would also appreciate it if anyone could let me know if they got an offer from Manchester with slightly lower grades, as I know they are known for offering lower entry requirements, if the rest of the application is strong.

Thanks

My purely personal preference: Manchester > Sheffield > Glasgow.

I did the IB and got a similar set of grades in terms of maths and physics, getting a grade below you in maths even and I applied for mechanical design engineering at the University of Glasgow, and Mech with foundation at Manchester. I got both offers and now am struggling to decide between the two. I think you will get the Manchester offer. Hope this helps.

Warwick certainly best placed for a career in the British automotive industry, the West Midlands & Coventry really are the heart of the industry and Warwick has very close links with JLR, and Warwick uni engineering feeds JLR / Aston Martin / the many tier-1s and automotive consultancies & contractors.

I don’t know if it’s still the case but Warwick uni & Coventry uni used to have some dedicated placement years at JLR only open to students at those universities.

Automotive plus Electric Vehicles at Brookes might have been a smart choice. Their facilities are brand new and they are right in the golden triangle.

They also have JLR placements available as I know several students who got them. It's not always good to be in a big firm as you can get quite a boring job.

Hello there,
Your application looks very strong but may i suggest that you also look at Coventry University for mechanical or automotive engineering. Our course is fully iMechE approved and offers a wide variant of options with foundation years, years in industry and integrated masters courses. We also have very strong links with lots of different automotive and transport companies but specifically we are linked to JLR as they are a very short distance away from our campus. The course we offer is a great mix of hands on practical learning and also more technical or theoretical science in a class room.
We also run the Shell eco marathon where automotive students try to create the most fuel efficient car they can and then take it to Europe to compete against a range of other universities.
Hope this helps and good luck your application
