Where to get advice on dissertation?

Hi all. I have my dissertation due in 2 weeks, ideally I would like a few people to read it and give me feedback before I send it off for submission. My sister (a BioChem graduate) and my best friend (a Bio student) have both agreed to read it and let me know if they think there is anything extra it needs, however it is a maths dissertation. I do worry that they wont fully understand it and might not notice things that other math students will - have my definitions been too descriptive/not descriptive enough etc. Is there any way to find other people online who would be willing to look through my diss from the perspective of a mathematics student/graduate/other, without posting on dodgy dissertation writing ads (not looking for someone to write it or edit it - just to let me know if it makes sense and if its good enough for a uni level of writing). My supervisor is kinda scary so I can't go to them, and I am not aware of my uni doing any similar services but I will have another look. Thanks )

Hello abagailhope,

I would personally still recommend using the resources available at your university rather than sharing your dissertation with other students or random people online. Have you checked your university's policy? As some universities will not allow you to share or publish your assignment with others due to the risk of it being plagiarised or being accused of collusion/academic misconduct.

I would strongly advise against sharing your dissertation or any other assignment with your friend or random people online for this reason. Your best bet would be going to your supervisor again or speaking to lecturers for your course or see if your university has a study skills service. My university has a study skills service and a mentoring scheme for example.

Best wishes,

Hi!

I completely understand where you're coming from, I am at a similar stage too. You university will likely have various protocols for this situation and may even have some resources ad free - I definitley recommend looking into this. I also recommend reaching out to your supervisor, I know they are scary but they will be able to offer you some advice - an email can't hurt!

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂
