You should be fine. You are doing history which as far as I’m aware Is only preferred, not required. I do History, English and Biology, and even though bios not all that relevant, as long as you show your interest in history, they won’t care about your STEM A-levels. If anything, it will show you have multiple skills/interests, which Oxford will value.

You can also link your interest in science to history. I really like the history of science/medicine, so perhaps, If you’re interested in the history of technology/science, you could briefly link your science A-levels to that. Or, you could simple say it has given you problem solving skills, and link that to history.

Good luck!

thank you and yes i'm planning on taking a gap year and reapplying!( I applied for maths and physics this year but have changed my mind). I think i was mainly worried that lacking alevel politics will put me at a disadvantage but i feel better knowing about your offer now.

which uni was your offer for, congrats

Hi, sorry only just saw this now. I’ll look into some books if you’d like. Do you have any preferences within the history of science? Like would you be interested in technology, chemistry, maybe the history of scientific and material thought/philosophy?

I wouldn't worry about a-level politics as they'll be aware that not all schools offer it

Check out the work of Katherine Blundell, the current Gresham Professor of Astronomy. Her stuff about Christopher Wren is fab.

Roy Porter's work on the history of medicine is great. See also The Lunar Men by Jenny Uglow and Age of Wonders by Richard Holmes.
