GCSE grades for Oxbridge

I’m not sure if I want to apply for Oxbridge in the future but I want that choice open. If I get one 5 (in French) and the rest of my grades are 7/8/9 could I still get in?

Hey,
Unis do not really look at your GCSEs (except perhaps English Language) but it would be worth improving your french. Have you tried using Quizlet for vocab or watching Peppa Pig (or other kids' shows in french) to improve your overall understanding of the language? Also having a notebook with words that may have come up in class that you don't understand is helpful. Good luck!

Yes definitely! As long as your A Level predicted grades are good and your overall application! For reference, I got 999887776 in my GCSEs and I am predicted A*A*A*A* in my A Levels and I have just received an offer from Oxford  best of luck!

Oxbridge look at results as part of a bigger picture generally. GCSEs play a part, but they’re used as context to the rest of the application, e.g. if you have lower GCSE grades but went to an underperforming secondary, or have a low GCSE in an unrelated subject but high predicted results in relevant subjects it balances out. Ultimately they want people with passion for the subject, and as part of widening access they have to consider all aspects of an application, not just GCSEs. Focus on your supercurriculars and predicted A Level grades and you can still be a successful candidate
