Getting funded part time after failing full time

Hi,

Because of unforeseen circumstances, I have failed the first year of my full-time course in BA graphic design twice and have not completed semester two.

I plan on leaving and attending a part time BA illustration at a different university.

I was wondering if I would get tuition/ funding for this part time course or even possibly full time at this course because I have not completed the BA graphic design course.

The unforeseen circumstances was a surgery during second semester the first year and then undiagnosed dyslexia/ADHD the second time around (support only for the dyslexia and not adhd until mid second retry) if that helps.

Hi Embers field,

Normally your previous study is taken into account when you start a new course from the beginning. If you have 2 years previous study and start a new course that is say, 3 years in length, the calculation would be 3+1-2=2 years. This means you would be fully funded for years 2 and 3 of the new course including Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan, however in the 1st year, you would need to self fund the Tuition Fees.

You mentioned a Compelling Personal Reason as to why you didn't complete the previous course, this means that if you could provide evidence of that, such as a letter from your GP and/or your university that would confirm what happened, when this happened and how this impacted your studies, you could apply for the additional year of Tuition Fee Loan.

Thanks, Clare
