Will access to higher education health professions get me into medical school?

I'm doing a counselling course level 2 right now and looking to do my maths and English level 1 and level 2 with possibility to go onto GCSE if needed. I decided I want to be a psychiatrist and need to go through medical school for this. I don't drive so can't get to any courses that are all out of my area I've seen a funded access to higher education health professions course and was wondering if this would help me get into medical school along with my maths and English and work experience in a health care role?
Generally medical schools are very specific about which access courses they accept - normally they will only accept specified access to medicine courses, and not all medical schools will accept all access to medicine courses. I would strongly urge you to check the webpages of and contact any medical schools you are considering applying to in the future to ask which if any access courses they accept for entry. They likely will be able to provide a list of access courses at specific providers they accept.

They are selective but only Bristol university accepts Access to HE science which is QAA approved from any college given the syllabus contains a specific number of credits and topics within the science subjects. Otherwise, if you’ve had a 3 year gap in education you could do access to he medicine in anglia Ruskin probably that is the most widely accepted . Best of luck !

Hi there,

Best of luck with your Level 2 Counselling course and Maths and English exams 👏

Not sure where you are based, but our Medicine school is located in Chelmsford, Essex. I have checked with Admissions about entry requirements and they have said:
- We do accept QAA accredited Access to HE Medicine courses.
- Access qualifications should be awarded within five years prior to the year of entry applied for. A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grades A*-B (9-6) are also required including English Language, Maths and two science subjects.

Please do have a look at our entry requirements webpage for Medicine for further info and details.

If you have any questions at all about entry requirements, I would recommend speaking with the Admissions team today:

Best wishes,
