Worrying about RHUL Offer

I am looking to study computer science (software engineering with placement) at RHUL and some other universities, I have been quite dead set on Royal Holloway being my firm choice since the start of Year 12 but I have started to worry a bit.

I am currently predicted an AAB (enough for admission) and I think I will achieve that if not much better but the problem lies in the fact that the RHUL course I chose (G462) requires a 6 in GCSE Mathematics which I did not achieve (I got a 4).

I am aware this is lower than the requirement but I was still finding my way at GCSE and have since regained my academic form, I know I could do extremely well on the course and I don't want to be denied for something like this. I program daily on multiple platforms, create my own projects and revise an excessive amount but I fear I will be rejected just because of one GCSE grade.

Do any of you think I have a chance? The rest of my application is strong.

If you're two grades below the GCSE Maths requirement, then you're very likely to be rejected. As you have "since regained my academic form", you should probably resit GCSE Maths. There's still time to register to resit this May/June.

(I assume you're still in Year 12, by the way. Or are you now in Year 13 and have already completed your UCAS application?)

Unless you're doing A-level maths I believe you have very little chance of an offer. Only achieving a 4 at GCSE is a huge red flag for a CS course. Resit.

I am in Year 13 and completed my application already. It is extremely disappointing to look forwards to potentially studying at RHUL to seeing that I will be declined because of a grade that I know does not reflect my ability in the slightest.

But why did you apply knowing that you didn't meet a basic requirement?

As I mentioned, I have been doing my own programming daily and creating my own projects, some of these programs require mathematics and it is beyond easy. Having checked what mathematics they teach on the course, I know I can do it relatively well and I am so oblivious as to why a GCSE grade would matter especially if my A-Levels are on par with what they want.

Because I thought there would be more leniency, my application shows my dedication to computer science as well as what I can do in the real world relating to CS. Mathematics is a subject I am strong in regardless of what my GCSE grade may tell you and if you choose not to believe that then fine.

Being honest, you should have checked with them before applying. Your abilities probably are way above those associated with a 4 in GCSE maths. However, admissions systems work more along the lines of

IF maths GCSE < 6
AND not taking maths A-level
THEN reject application

Apologies for syntax errors, I'm not a programmer, but presumably you get the general idea.

I hope that I'm wrong, and that RHUL have more flexibility than the above.

Extremely disappointing that I will be likely rejected for something like this, RHUL only have one mathematics module in the 4 years I will be there and after looking at it, it's simple programmatical mathematics that I have done 100x over in my own time. I know I would be a great student without a doubt as well; just hoping they can be flexible.

Contact them and ask?

I sent the admissions office an E-Mail yesterday, just waiting for them to get back to me.
