No problem. I take Chemistry Biology Maths and Further Maths. You don’t need to take 4, you do need to take 3 stem subjects though (only like 3 people every year get in with two stem subjects).

For Medicine generally you’ll want to organise work experience in a clinical setting if possible for insight into the career. Volunteering is also a good idea to actually practice skills like communication and empathy.

Cambridge compared to other med school have more of a focus on your academics (although they want to see the above points too). For extracurriculars try and do things to explore medicine outside of school. That could be reading books (This Is Going To Hurt as an example), listening to podcasts/documentaries, entering medical essay competitions (look out for these in year 12), science Olympiads, doing MOOCS online, creating a medical club etc. Don’t do all of these, pick things that interest you and honestly just keep looking into them. I’m your statement write about them critically, what did you think about it? Why did you enjoy it? This ‘wider reading’ shows them you’ve got a passion for medicine, and are doing more than the bare minimum of your a level studies. Google access courses for universities next year (I think Cambridge usually has a few like Stem smart), that’s a version of going above and beyond your curriculum.

Thank you very much! Do you think I could have a chance with 9A*s and 3As? Or do they rather all A*s and I should try to achieve that . And how did you find maths! I want to do it but I am not too good at maths and I get low As in class tests and mocks for gcse . And is doing and EPQ a waste? ( sorry for too any questions i am really passionate about medicine at Cambridge)

Your GCSEs would be great! They’re looki for strong ones across the board (oxford is more focussed on GCSEs, with most people having straight 9s/a*s). I’ve seen some people be admitted with 6s, so your stats there shouldn’t be a problem.

I find maths good, although it’s probably my best subject hence further maths. Overall I find it quite straightforward, but it has always been my best. It’s probably worth a go unless you feel that physics is a stronger suit for you.

EPQ isn’t a waste. I didn’t do one because doing things like essay competitions, I was already researching outside of school you know? Up to you on that one, if you make it medical related can show your enthusiasm and willingness to research, but they won’t hold it against you for not having it. Just remember it’s an extra commitment along with 3 a levels (wouldn’t recommend 4 +EPQ).

Thank you very much! Good luck on your new uni journey! Hopefully someday I’ll study in the same college you went to
