Do I have a chance of getting into Oxford for PPE?

Hi!! I am a year 12 student who wants to study PPE at Oxford; here are my stats:
-988887777 at GCSE
- predicted A*A*A*A* in A levels Philosophy Religion and Ethics, History, Politics, and English Lit + A in as level Thinking Skills
- consistent high marks on TSA exams
So here is my question: are my GCSEs too low, and will not having maths be a massive issue? I really want to apply but I’m concerned that I have no chance and it will be a waste.
+ (any tips at all for PPE applications would be much appreciated)
Thank you!!

Hi! I can’t offer any advice but am wondering the same thing surrounding maths! I found a really interesting document that details the demographic of PPE students and how many took maths and English etc etc. If you search PPE Admission statistics it should help. Your A-Levels are incredible! I’m not sure if Oxford accept Critical Thinking Skills AS but given you have 4 other A* A-levels they won’t mind!
It also says on the document that GCSE grades do not matter too much and that they place greater importance on A-levels etc etc

Your stats are a little bit insane ngl. I'm not sure about the maths thing, but if they have a problem with a straight-A* student then they don't deserve you tbh (I didn't even have history, so best not to worry). I would be surprised if your grades were at-all a hinderance.

I would move your focus towards the TSA now, this is arguably more important than perfect grades. Look through tips, tricks and exam technique (many helpful videos/articles out there), and then spam out past papers. The past papers are really helpful so do as many as possible (without burning out of course).

After all that, try to get a few mock interviews. They're really helpful if you get to interview stage,

Best of luck to you - Sammy (PPE offer holder for 2025).

Yeah they don't accept critical thinking I don't think.

Hi! Just got a PPE offer last month for 2025 entry so hopefully I can be of some help.
I am sitting A Level Maths but on the Oxford PPE webpage (https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/course-listing/philosophy-politics-and-economics) they do not specify any required subjects! I would take this at face value so wouldn't worry that you do not have Maths as your other predicted grades are way above their entrance requirements (AAA) and are extremely impressive regardless!
However, my econ interview was based on applying basic maths (algebra, y12 differentiation etc.) to an economic scenario so I would just say to watch a few differentiation videos and do some practise before interview as your TSA and interview are much more important than your predicted grades - after all these people will be teaching you for 3 years and want to know you are adaptable, fun to teach, can think critically etc.
That's another thing - the TSA will test your maths skills during the Problem Solving Qs, but if you say you are scoring consistently high (73+) then that's fantastic! For reference I achieved a 76 in the TSA and the average score for those given offers was 73ish.
Just a tip, don't steam through all the TSA past papers out there too soon! I knuckled down with TSA revision from the beginning of September and the test was at the end of October and I managed to complete all the Section 1s on the Oxford website; you don't need to worry about the TSA until Year 13 - focus on your end of years and then worry about Oxford!
Its a tough and long process but so worth it - if you have any more questions about anything I'm more than happy to answer!

honestly thought the 6 in further maths gcse was going to kill my application but seems not!
my school wasn’t particularly bad either (state school) but i think i came 15th in my cohort

They don't state it's required, but they do list it as "recommended", and historically I believe usually about 90%+ of successful applicants had A-level Maths. So there does seem to be a preference for it, even if it's not completely required.

I suspect the gap is more reflecting students doing e.g. IALs or something who have a different maths curriculum in their country, and do more maths before the A-level years. I would be surprised if a significant amount of UK students doing a typical GCSE-A-level curriculum were accepted without A-level Maths and with no maths beyond GCSE otherwise.
