struggling with staying organised in year 12

hey, so basically my problem is that I leave everything to the last minute and i'm struggling to balance studying with my personal life and i'm also finding it really hard to eat enough and eat healthily because I have no time to cook proper meals. I usually have homework due every single day which I either end up doing the night before or not at all. I also have mini tests, at least one a week, which I end up cramming or not revising for and my grades are not looking great at all (especially because the sixth form I go to is very studious and majority of people are extremely smart, makes my grades look awful). I do struggle to get off my phone but when I do I have no motivation to do any studying. I take 3 a-levels and 1 as level (required by my sixth form) and they recommend us to do 5 hours of independent study per subject per week.
I desperately need some organisation and motivation advice, or any resources/study tips. Literally anything would be helpful. TIA
To me it sounds like you haven’t built up a very good routine around homework and studying which is completely understandable.
My advice would be to kind of hit zero. Find a quiet place to sit down and write out literally everything you need to do including meal prep. Then work out what you need to do first and what can wait. If you’re struggling atm with deadlines then maybe talk to your teachers and ask if you could have some extensions until you’ve got everything sorted.
How do you organise your school stuff atm? It can get messy very fast if you haven’t got a proper system. If you haven’t already then start using a planner or a calendar when you have a lot of deadlines so you can see visually when stuff is due.
Id strongly suggest making yourself a distraction free place to study. If you cant do this within your home then look into other places you can study like in school or at a public library.
It might help you if you have someone to keep you accountable. This could be a friend from your class or even someone on student room- people post on here all the time looking fr study buddies. You could also consider starting a GYG blog if that’s something that might help you- it helps me a lot!
Are you able to negotiate dropping the as level with your school? I understand some schools mandate this and theres no room for change but it’s worth asking. You could also see if theres any support they could give you with managing deadlines or organising yourself.
Cramming is never effective, you need to learn over a longer period of time. I find spaced repetition flashcards really helpful for this. What subjects do you do? I do Biology and Maths so might be able to help if you take either of them or if not then i can tag someone who does your subjects if i know anyone 🙂
Don’t compare yourself to others, the fact youre concerned about your grades shows youre really trying but you just haven’t found a way to make a levels work for you quite yet- everyone takes time to adjust and the people who get good grades probably have had to go through this to or they’re sacrificing other things to get their grades.
Hope you have an amazing day and this all gets sorted out soon!
