My plan is so stay at home and commute but on the off chance i get into my first choice through them reconsidering on results day I won’t be able to afford accommodation nevermind food everyday, what do I do?! I don’t qualify for any additional support at the uni id be living at either

Hi there!

This is way more common than you'd think! A lot of people get term-time jobs at their university/ in the city they're living in to help cover the cost of things 🙂 Commuting is also really common! It might be worth figuring out exactly how much extra you'd need each week, and how many hours of work you'd need to do to see if it would be possible financially. Normally the guideline is to not do more than a maximum, of 15-20hrs a week of paid work while studying so that you've got enough time for your degree & activities, etc.

Hi if I get into my first choice uni I won’t know until results day as I’m in a reconsideration group and it’ll be Cambridge so I won’t be able to work during term time! But thanks so much for your help!!

Your parents will be saving money if you move out so if they are prepared to feed you if you live at home, ask them if they will do the same if you move out. About £40 per week should cover it.

They’ve offered to cover the difference between my loan and accommodation but beyond that I’d have to fund my food myself. I know I most likely won’t be going anyway but on the off chance I get accepted in August I’m stressing🥲
