4 months away from Alevels and still no motivation...

I don't know about anyone else but for some reason the panic hasn't set in yet. I am currently in year 13 studying Maths, Physics and Spanish and I am hoping to get A*AA but I am currently working at AAB. Even though the exams are looming ever closer I just can't muster up the motivation to be studying for hours every night. Anyone else have the same problem, or some advice to get me motivated?

don’t worry, this is my current situation too. i am currently predicted ABC but wanting to get AAA. it feels like there is barely any time left, however i still don’t feel any urgency to start revising. idk where to find the motivation to do anything. i think the best advice i have is to just bite the bullet and start as that is the worst bit, until you get into a consistent routine. i need to take this advice myself before it’s too late lmao

I wouldn’t worry too much, I only really started revising for my a levels in late April as this is when I felt motivation start to hit me and I did pretty good in them! Try and do just a little, even if it’s watching a revision video on the bus home!

Hey @row.xp,

For some students (especially me), the motivation to study for multiple hours each night only hits when exams are a bit closer - for example, late March or April time. As long as you're understanding the content in class and completing any homeworks assigned to you, I wouldn't worry too much about lacking motivation at this stage. It can sometimes be difficult to prepare for something that in your head feels quite far away - however, as it moves closer, you should hopefully find yourself more motivated to study. 🙂

Best of luck with your A-Levels,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

I feel as if I need a set routine/ revision time table but I don't even know where to starttt. I'm just hoping when I get my mock results back the panic will start to set in lmao. Thanks for the reassurance

Thank you! Glad to hear it's not just me...

When you get the mocks back you should traffic light the questions and use this to focus revision; amber topics first.

Also start with 30 mins revision then a break.

Do you know about Traffic Lighting?
Try to imagine what you'll feel like during results day if you do lots of hard work Vs not doing much work.

I've created a motivating playlist to study to:

You don't have much time. You think you do, but you don't. And yes you know you are capable, yes you have done well before, but this is the real thing.

On results day, do you really want to open your results and see you've missed your grades by one mark? One mark away from your dream Uni offer? Do you want to go through the stresful process of clearing in the summer knowing you had the offer, the potential to get those grades?

And even if you haven't applied to uni, or are taking a gap year or think that these grades won't matter, that regret will stay in your mind. And yes, regret hurts more than sitting down and doing a past paper in maths right now.

You've done the work before, you can do it again. It's only a few months of papers and notes and repeating until it's over. We're almost halfway through Feb. March flies by, and now its April but oh no May is next and suddenly you have all of your important exams. Start now, which subject is your weakest? If you can admit right now that you struggle with integration in maths - watch a video on it, go on PMT and do questions for an hour until you get it right.

Plan the night before. Tomorrow you'll do 2 hours after school, 1 phys, 1 spanish. The day after you have 3 frees in school so you are going to lock yourself away in a room and catchup on any notes, do a past paper, get it marked etc.

Build your revision up. 2 hours minimum a night every day for a few weeks, by mid March up it to 3 per night and at least 4 hours on Sat and Sun.

I know you're tired, and bored and can't be bothered, but the work is there, you are there, you just need to combine them and you will see results!

And even if results day ends up being disappointing, you know you tried your best.

If I can do it, so can you. We will smash our A levels

I am in the exact same position, all the content seems so overwhelming that I have no idea what to prioritise and how to organise it all into a timetable. Although the panic and motivation is definitely beginning to set in now, I'm not sure what to do with it hahaha

Revise the topics you find hardest. I get that getting started is the hardest thing, try going at it for 5 mins and see how you feel. You might start to get into it. Maybe put on some music without lyrics to help you?

If you need motivation, here goes...

••••••••••
Picture yourself with no A levels, degree or job. You are floating through life as a confirmed burden on society. You initially make excuses and claim that it was your mental health or whatever. As you live, you realise that your mates have all progressed through life and it was never your mental health, you were just lazy. Now you have nothing to call your own.

You begin to resent yourself and say “i wish i had done better”, but by then it is too late. You had already lost. The politicians want to cut your welfare and blame people like you for the ills in society.

You make a decision to change things and you fix things eventually.

My bad. The OP wanted motivation.
To be honest, I find these posts annoying. There's people actually failing their A Levels, and OP is complaining over As and Bs. Yeah, I need to get off this site.
