higher math help

aside from doing past papers regularly and asking for help, what else is there to do to get a good grade? i just got my prelim results back and they were honestly a wake up call, but i’m not sure what else i can do to help me?

There isn't much else you can do to study apart from maths questions.

I got 97% in my higher maths prelim (I'm not showing off I swear 😅) and what I'd recommend is that when your teacher gives you questions to do in class, you do all that you are given and more.
Usually in the textbooks, the questions get more advanced until the ones at the end of the page are A grade exam style questions, so the more of these you will conquer the better you will get at the actual exam questions.
The people who get the highest scores are the ones who finish all the work and then do more, so if you do this you'll see massive improvements in your understanding of topics and your exam scores in general.

Best of luck, I'll give any more advice needed!

I sort of agree with what @stilllearning123 has said about completing textbook exercises. I wouldn't say you have to complete them all, so long as you complete a good variation of them. I've come across exercises in my textbook where questions go from part a) to part k) but are all very similar in difficulty level. It can get very repetitive and boring to do all of these so I'd suggest picking a selection of parts from each question (e.g. a column) and doing them. If you struggled then do the rest, otherwise move onto the next question. There's no point in doing something if you're already really good at it.

There's also highermaths.co.uk which has worksheets for specific topics, booster papers and so much more. They try and get you to pay for the 'Study Pack' or something but there's really no point - you get plenty of resources for free and you don't need the extra ones in my opinion.

I would definitely recommend asking if you can look at your prelim paper or class tests to see if its overall not going well or a few topic areas bringing you down, if so then definitely focus on those. I would also try clelland maths on YouTube, it has the whole course and goes over past paper questions
