Pharmacology application

Hi, I am a year 12 student thinking of applying for pharmacology next year. However, i’m struggling with what to do for supercurriculars. I can’t find many personal statements online aswell as books or programmes etc. I am doing the ucl expand and birmingham pathway for pharmacy aswell as bath for pharmacology. My mom works for a clean room company and i will hopefully be getting some work experience in a lab! (I know this is not specifically pharma related but it will give me insight to a lab environment) I was wondering if any previous or current applicants could give me any advice? thanks any response appreciated

try look into some research work experience, or conduct your own research e.g. EPQ. I did a research project with kings about AMR which I talked about in my personal statement

You could do a MOOC, work experience at your local NHS trust’s research and innovation centre, or at at local pharmaceutical company and read books related to the pharmaceutical industry (I read one called bad pharma). I did all of these things as a pharmacology applicant.

I take students in 6th form for their work experience. Is there a pharmacology department at a uni near you where you could apply?

Hiya! im currently studying pharmacology at UCL.in my personal statement i talked about a MOOC i did (deffo recommend), an article i read abound something I was interested in (azhimers) and talked about my experience in a lab (which i think was the most important bit) - my lab work experience has absolutely nothing to do with pharmacology too. I don't think you have to go into doing all out crazy time consuming extracurriculars - just do things that show your are truly interested in this degree, and use your free time to learn more about it (even if its not true lol). Id be happy to send you my personal statement if you'd like, I know that when I was searching for this kinda thing in year 12 it was hard to come by 🙂

Dear Dr Jo, I am hoping to apply to Pharmacology at UCL and would be very interested in some work experience if you have anything available. It would really benefit my personal and professional development as well as my UCAS application. Looking forward to you reply.

Hi, I am in year 12 and hoping to apply to UCL Pharmacology. I’d love to see your personal statement. My mums friend has arranged for me to be in the lab at imperial college for 2-3 days. Would that be enough?

I’ve emailed all local companies and none have responded. Is experience that important?

I’m not really sure tbh. I’m only just finishing year 13 now. I did get offers for pharmacology after doing all of those things but it might not be because of that. I wouldn’t say experience is important for uni applications. But it it’s important to know if that’s what you want to do as a career. For unis supercurriculars (like wider reading) are the most important.

Hello could I see your personal statement pls bc I’m thinking about applying to ucl for pharmacology

Personal statements will be a different format from this year onwards, so previous years’ personal statements may not actually be very helpful. Also it’s advised not to share your personal statement online in case of plagiarism.
