hey there! i just wamted to ask of anyone can give me advice as to doing anything now so that i can increase my chances to get accepted into american ivy league universities? my gcses werent awful (i was ill and had been bullied) and im in year 12 but some issues had begun (medically) so now im taking time off and restarting y12 in sep this year, but despites my cicumstances i still want to use my time and do some things that can help me in the future...any help? thank you!!

Join schoolhouse and bump up your hours on your portfolio, this can be for tutoring or even taking part in dialogues sessions, apply for pre college programs, take online courses for your intended major, do something in your community that your actually passionate about, you can create a blog to add to ur portfolio that reflects a deep interested of yours, try to get involved in DEI or similar initiatives in your community helping widen access for others, join your local youth council, take part in for credit courses like Rice or NYU and finally find out your passion and nerd out on it. Ivy's get millions of kids with good grades and EC's applying, but your essay, your passion and commitment to achieving the best possible grades/outcome regardless of your scenario is the main focus. I'd highly suggest bumping up your SAT score through taking schoolhouse boot camps because most ivys and competitive colleges are actually returning to test compulsory. Dont pay for any books though, they're free if you know where to look. Overall it's never "over" and you always have a chance so believe in yourself and make sure everything you do is something you genuinely enjoy rather than something you feel obliged to do for an application so you have gained something regardless of the eventual decision. Good luck, and I believe in you!!

True for the top 10 but not top 20. Vandy/CM/ND/etc all take a lot of test optionals, especially from countries where act/sat isn't widely available. It's more important that you've excelled in your home country's equivalent exams.
You need to be focused on outstanding extracurriculars, as the majority of American students shooting for an ivy are going to have published research, national/international awards or leadership positions, and prestigious internships. That will get you in the door for consideration but then your essays are what will set you apart, so make sure those are spectacular too and show what a compelling candidate you are.

This advice was true until this year, most T20s are reversing on the test optional until 2030 promise they made during covid since test optional students have been proven to perform worse whilst in college. Also, as an international kid applying to unis with aid you need anything possible to up your slim chances. If 30k+ apply with a 1500+ score this means it IS the bare minimum to apply, even if you need good EC's to stand out amongst that crowd of 1500. Also SAT wont hinder your ability to partake in EC's so just best to advise one to focus on both.
