Can you still receive funds if you are classified as non-means tested by student fina

I was classified as non-means-tested in 2023 due to incorrect information provided by my housing provider. The person assigned to my case went on annual leave, which left my case unresolved. Since then, I have tried to applied again but was rejected. I am currently studying nursing and doing placements without any financial support, and I have two young children. What loans am I eligible to receive?🌸 any advice is helpful

Hi Rashisakonteh,

Was your application for 24/25 rejected or the means testing of 23/24? Did you receive an email to advise why this was rejected?

Thanks, Clare

My application was rejected during my second year at university while I was studying a different course. I received a scripted email informing me about the decision, which resulted in my non-mean tested maintenance payments being stopped completely. I recently applied to study nursing from 2024 for 3 years and have been attending classes regularly without missing a single day, including my placements. However, just last month, Student Finance claimed that I was not attending my classes, which led them to halt all of my payments. Due to my previous non-mean tested status, my university contacted them to confirm my attendance.the decision has not change.

Hi there,

It's the university that notifies us if you stop attending the courses and once they do your payments are then automatically cancelled - as you're not entitled to funding if you are not studying. If the university have notified us that you've resumed your studies then this will update your funding once the notification is processed. This currently can take 7 working days to process as an estimated timescale from when they notify us. Thanks, Jason

I appealed all their decisions, but Student Finance stated that they upheld the information provided by their colleagues before the caseworker went on holiday. After the caseworker returned, I was able to speak with him. He mentioned that if the applied team had contacted him about investigating the case again, he would not have penalised the non-means-tested part of my case with the new information. The appeal team never reached out to him or looked at the new information. My case is currently non-means tested. I am unsure if I can continue with my nursing course.
