Do university vet course accept resit gcse grades?

I'm a yr12 student who wants to apply vet course in uni. However my gcse english grade is not enough to meet requirement. (most of them need a 5/6, i got a 4) So im now considering resit. However my friends told me some universities dont accept resit grades? I have been on their websites, but I cant find any information so far (except of university of Edinburgh). Anyone knows do they accept or not? UOB, UOG, UOL these are my targets.

Bristol requires a 4 in English Language.

Liverpool states they accept one set of GCSE resits: https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/veterinary-science/study/how-to-apply/

I found this from 2020 for Glasgow that says they won't accept any resits, but I would contact them to see if it's still up to date: https://www.gla.ac.uk/media/Media_731849_smxx.pdf

You're welcome! Oh, I see. Bristol states they do accept resits: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/media/undergraduate/admissions-statements/2025/veterinary-science.pdf (section 1.8 Resits). It also specifically states they accept GCSE resits here: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/entry-requirements-qualifications/uk-qualifications/#gcse

Have you looked at this page to see if you meet any of these other ways to satisfy the English language requirement for Bristol? https://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/language-requirements/profile-b/

You’re welcome. I would contact Bristol to check for certain. You might need to resit for applying to other universities, though, right?

I'm not sure to be honest, it'll be great if u could give me some advice. There's 5 unis that i like, and 3 needed resit for a better grade (including Bristol touchwood). Do u think worth it? I cant be sure I'll get a better grade or not... And it costs £55...

What is your first language, if I may ask? Which other unis do you like? UCLan only requires a 4/C.

If you want to apply to the unis that require a better grade, I imagine it'd be worth it so that you can apply to them. Did you get the GCSE grades in other subjects? Have you spoken with your teachers to see what you might need to improve upon when resitting? Would it be extra pressure alongside taking A-levels?

Remember you can only use 4 UCAS choices for Veterinary, so that might help you decide if you should resit or not.

My first language is cantonese. I don't have other unis i like, the only ones are Edinburgh, Nottingham, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow.

As I'm studying in a sixth form which is not same as my secondary school, the teachers here didnt give me any useful advice. They also cant provide classes for me.

I think I do get other GCSE subjects grades. I got ≥grade 7 x5.

I think I can handle it alongside taking A levels, as I have got some free time besides doing homework and stuff.

If you are not an international or Scottish student then applying to both Scottish schools is not advisable. They have a quota for RUK students which means they are even more competitive than the other vet schools . If you are an International applicant then you could probably get round the GCSE requirement by passing the IELTS exam.
Whatever your applicant status ( home fee or international) you would be far better to look at teaching styles and application processes when choosing your 4 schools rather than just the schools that you like the most. There are 10 applicants per place available, so you have to fulfill ALL of the minimum requirements or you will just be automatically filtered out at stage one.
