Qualifying for estranged student status

Hi,
I’m just wondering if i can qualify as an estranged student if I still technically have contact with one of my parents.
I have been estranged/no contact with one of my parents for well over a year now, however I still occasionally see the other. My parents are split up and I have had issues with them both my whole life and try to limit how involved they are in it. I do not receive any financial support from the parent i remain in contact with.
Would I qualify?

Hi Aiofe,

Are you under 25? Have you self supported for 3 years before the start of your course?

Estrangement - In order to be considered irreconcilably estranged from your parents you won't have had any written or verbal contact with either parent, usually for a period of at least 12 months, and this is unlikely to change.
If you have had contact with your parent(s) you can still apply. You would need to provide a full explanation of the nature of the contact, and this would then be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Estrangement Assessors who handle exceptional cases.

Thanks,
Claire
