How do I record jobsearch for universal credit?

The last time I had to look for work was years ago when they had the paper books where you wrote down what you did to look for work, now it's all online, do I do the same but online? Do I need to show any evidence or bring anything in when I go to the jobcentre for reviews? It doesn't say to bring anything just to attend.
Every time you apply for a job, or get invited to an interview, or get rejected, you record it in your online UC journal

Yeah you just record the jobs online in the same way as paper - what the job is, who it's with, where you saw it, how and when you applied - the work coach checks it from there so you don't need to keep or bring a physical copy

There is a specific page on their website to record it so don't just add it to the basic journal, as that's more for when you want to get info to them or get their attention.

Thanks that's what I've been doing, it only asks for name of job, name company/agency it's with, data I applied or expiry date of applying if I selected interested in job and there's a notes box at the bottom which I haven't used insure what I'm supposed to write there then you can update it and select job interview, successful, unsuccessful etc

I'm also unsure how many jobs I'm supposed to be applying for, my work plan/commitments doesn't say all I know is I have to spend 35 hours a week looking/applying for work according to my work plan.

There's no set number because sometimes there just aren't that many jobs available to apply for, whereas other times several pop up. I think on average my daughter was applying for about 10 a week when she was on UC (when she was looking for gap year work).
Searching for them is, in itself, time consuming.

How is this nonsense not considered harassment to the unemployed also putting them at risk of fake job offer scammers along with genuine job offers from employers that will be getting spammed with nonsense applications?

You're not expected to apply for jobs that you have no intention of accepting if offered. You're expected to search for jobs that are suitable and apply for them, and accept if offered a position.

I only really used the 'applied for' option, as the 'interested' option just seems to provoke further questions. For the notes I used to just add the website I saw the job on and 'sent cv & cover letter' or 'applied directly online' etc

A work coach might set you a number of jobs they expect you to apply for, but otherwise they just want to see reasonable effort and turning up with about 10-15 in a fortnight largely keeps them happy. As @PinkMobilePhone says, depending on the fields you are applying for there may only be a modest amount of vacancies you can apply to, especially over time. However past a point they expect you to largely take anything from any field if you haven't been able to find something in your chosen one.

It IS harassment and that's the whole point, they don't just let you sit at home and claim, you need to justify the payments for looking for work by actually looking for work because otherwise people would take the p*** far more and you end up with people who have been on the dole for decades with any employment skills long crumbled. The right wing media love to demonise dole scroungers and the perceived weakness that feeds them so the DWP correspondingly has to make a show of making life difficult for claimants.

No one is asking you to apply for dodgy or nonsense jobs and you shouldn't need to send 'fake' applications, if you can't credibly find a dozen odd things to genuinely apply to every two weeks you probably aren't really trying, unless you either stay somewhere very rural or have some significant barriers to employment.

EDIT - To be fair, this used to be a pretty big issue, when they brought in their own integrated 'Universal Jobmatch' service just over a decade ago (while not mandatory for claimants to join, it kinda was) and they applied almost no vetting to the ads so yeah there was a lot of fraud and inappropriate stuff, sex work etc. The whole thing got binned within a few years mostly for this controversy. The number of jobs you are expected to apply for now is significantly less than during this period so there genuinely isn't the same pressure to fake stuff. As above, if you can't find like 1 thing a day to apply for, are you really trying?

That's exactly what they do because a lot of jobcentre staff are either vermin or boxtickers.
Ironically when it comes to the claims that too many people are going on the sickness benefits there is also evidence that the system is denying legitimate claims outright.

Glad you agree but it's also screwing around with employers trying to find workers without the spam applications from the DWPs antics.

I don't think it's so much that they're all vermin, just that that's the welfare policy. There can be no question they had to tighten it up as under the old DSS policies there were pretty much 0 checks and claimants just had to pretty much tick a box that said they'd looked for work, so you ended up with untold 1000s who had v little motivation to ever do anything or gain/maintain skills. When push comes to shove if you want to claim a benefit that's conditional on you looking for work, how unreasonable is it to ask for proof? This isn't to ignore that they went overboard on the sanctions and harassment side of things at times.

As said, they've moved quite a bit past setting arbitrary numbers of things to apply for and if you genuinely can't find a dozen or so things every two weeks to apply for you likely aren't trying or being realistic in what you apply for. If someone is choosing to not even do this and just send out nonsense time wasting applications the responsibility for that is squarely on them.
