Philosophy vs English Lit bachelors

I’m conflicted on which undergrad to pursue! I’m in y12 and take English Lit, Maths and Art, I’m sort of looking at which degree has wider job prospects maybe?? Overall I’m not that sure and my parents are pressuring me to choose now, any advice on which subject may be worth pursuing more?

Most degree subjects are not directly related to employment options. A degree in philosophy and a degree in English open up the same career opportunities. Try to resist parental pressure. Your choice of degree is about you, not them.

Go to some University Open Days and listen to the subject presentations for both.
Think carefully about which you will enjoy the most - and ask what careers their graduates have gone on to, you will be surprised about the variety.

Btw, any course that gives you any sort of work experience is a major bonus for your graduate CV : - it immediately gets you over the problem of 'nice degree, but no experience' that many graduates face :
English Language (Placement Year) BA Hons (Q305) - Lancaster University
BA Philosophy with Placement Experience - 2025/26

This is super helpful, thanks! I’ve seen degrees like this and they’ve really interested me - I’ll probably do some more research into which specialty will interest me more!
