First, think very carefully about what you want to do, and why, because you cannot change your mind again.
Then you phone UCAS, they tell you what to do next, and you hope that the Unis involved say yes,

And this folks, is exactly why you don't pick your Firm and Insurance this early!

Hello @graiii0,

Hope you are well. First of all I would advise contacting UCAS directly as they might be able to change things around. Try contacting both Southampton and Swansea’s admissions teams, sometimes universities are flexible and may advise you on the best steps to take. Another option I’d recommend is to check UCAS Extra or Clearing to see if Swansea still has places.

Have a look at this link it might help aswell: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/university/apply/changing-your-mind-about-your-firm-or-insurance-choice
Hope this helps.

Hello @graiii0,
Hope you are well. First of all I would advise contacting UCAS directly as they might be able to change things around. If you’ve already submitted your firm choice but now want to switch, you may need to release yourself from your firm choice through UCAS Hub. However, this can be a bit risky as you would then need to secure a new offer from Swansea. Also try contacting both Southampton and Swansea’s admissions teams, sometimes universities are flexible and may advise you on the best steps to take. Another option I’d recommend is to check UCAS Extra or Clearing to see if Swansea still has places.

Please IGNORE all of this advice - and do not DO anything like releasing or cancelling offers!
Talk to UCAS and they will telly you what to do.

erm, I did what the BCU rep said and it worked I was able to change my Southampton offer to Leicester after I firmed it. I rejected them called them spoke to it about and then called Leicester and it popped up on my ucas and then I called ucas to see if it was legit and it was so I say do what the bcu person said cuz it worked for me and Southampton are nice like the lady I called was understanding she was like just decline it on ucas. But it took them so long to pick up so dedicate a whole day

That sounds like something that happened after results day?

It’s quite different making changes this early in the year when offers are still conditional.

@blue-eyed-brawl I'm glad everything worked out for you!

@McGinger as you can see above, we haven't recommended cancelling or releasing any offers before speaking with UCAS or the universities, as Mercy said, contact UCAS in the first instance (like you recommended) and the universities that have been applied to may also be helpful, as they're usually understanding.

Thanks,
Abbie

Hi Abbie
The original post before editing was quoted and stated "you may need to release yourself from your firm choice through UCAS Hub."

Now the post has been edited that has (rightly) been removed but it's not ideal to deny posting something when the quote shows the original post contents.
Yes, just to clarify 'release yourself via Hub' is an action you can only do from AL results day onwards once you are placed at a uni.

Swapping/Switching/Withdrawing/cancelling actions have different meanings and it doesn't really help to conflate them all.

UCAS is definitely the first port of call here as your choices may have already given a blanket approval for reply swaps.

Hi @PQ

No worries, I didn't see that version of the post by Mercy. Mercy must have been confused with Clearing, sorry about that. All has been corrected now.
