PGCE application

I graduated from Uni in July 2023 and I'm now looking at doing a PGCE in primary. I've been thinking about it for a really long time and I do think I'd love it, but I don't have any experience working with children- I've tried to apply for jobs working with children but without the experience couldn't get them... But right now I work a 9-5, so can't volunteer at a school. The PGCEs I've looked at say the courses fill quick and I don't want to miss my opportunity and have to wait another year, especially because I'm not moving city, so I only have the option of two university courses. What should I do? Try and wait for a volunteering opportunity to work out, and THEN apply with experience? or write my personal statement without any experience? It's been like 7 years since I wrote my undergrad personal statement 💀

You could do volunteer work as a cub or scout leader which is one evening a week. Or join a football club training children on a weekend. If you have worked as a carer that would help particularly if you want to teach SEN children. Do the personal statement without any experience and see how it goes. Also apply through the government get into teaching website. That is how I got into university to do my PGCE.

Dear Dazquas,

It is very exciting that you are researching teacher training.

Please do consider signing up for an adviser at the Get Into Teaching Information Service. All the advisers are experienced teachers and you can chat by phone, text or email, as little or as often as you need. We’d be delighted to help. https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/help-and-support.
Thank you to Migrose for mentioning us.

All the very best for the future.
