Cambridge Part iii admission criteria

Hello,

I'm an undergrad at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL). I was wondering how exactly applications to Cambridge part iii are evaluated; specifically: are these judged solely on grades? Is it possible to "simply" work hard and get good grades for a few years and then automatically get in? Also, it would be really helpful if anyone had any idea what grade would be sufficient for admission coming from the swiss federal system (ETH Zurich / EPFL, out of 6).

Thanks.

Hi, by part iii you mean this particular masters: MASt Admissions | Part III (MMath/MASt), correct? I'm not STEM myself, but know EPFL very well (from Geneva with lots of friends who graduated EPFL) and there is definitely a minimum grade requirement that the department might try to waive under exceptional circumstances, but from my understanding they usually don't. This cambridge website converts the UK grade requirements for you, and in CH you need a 5.5 or above.

I will say though that grades are definitely not the only thing they will be looking at. They take letters of recommendation quite seriously and will want to see what other academic experience you have gained. My advice for you as someone who is coming from EPFL if you're planning on applying is to keep your grades up and involve yourself as much as possible in working with your professors outside the classroom, to boost up your CV, but also so that your professors will have enough experience working with to be able to write good letters of rec (should really be full professors, and not just lecturers). Also get involved! You should be taking advantage of all the amazing STEM focused clubs and projects related to your field that EPFL has to offer.

Good luck!
