This largely depends on what university you want to complete your PhD at and what the course is. At SOAS, the annual fee is £4,860 for Full-time Home Students (including Fieldwork).

you possibly already know this, but self funding a PhD isnt always the best move - whats the subject area?
It should be possible to get funded PhD that comes with some income and fees covered - if you are self funding then the research is your IP, but it makes me wonder if the work is useful to anyone. Certainly in STEM subjects there is funding for work people / unis / orgs need and the PhD leads you to employment / more research work
The only person I know who self funded their PhD was researching some BioScience test and planned to set up a business with the tech - which she did
It should be possible to get funded PhD that comes with some income and fees covered - if you are self funding then the research is your IP, but it makes me wonder if the work is useful to anyone. Certainly in STEM subjects there is funding for work people / unis / orgs need and the PhD leads you to employment / more research work

i'm getting a loan from student finance, my PhD is on the scottish wildcat , which is an animal on the brink of extinction that there is very little research being done on
