Has anyone applied for the National Grid apprenticeships this year? 2025

Just wondering if anyone has been invited to the assessment centre yet for any of the apprenticeship more so the assistant project manager apprenticeship?

Hi, I have been invited to the AC for an advance apprenticeship role. Not sure what to expect though! The AC schedule sounds ok. Are you going to Eakring?

Hi, I've been given a date of the 2nd April for the assessment centre for the substation advance apprenticeship, no location yet

Good luck on the 2nd April. Because I live more than 2 hours away from the AC in Eakring, I am staying at Eakring Lodge the night before my AC. I’m not sure what to expect but if I learn anything interesting, I’ll post details on here.

@paulwallace I’ve had my AC and it all went smoothly. I haven’t heard back yet to hear if I was successful but everyone made me feel welcome and it was what I expected. Good luck with your AC.

I’ve applied for OHL advanced apprenticeship. Done the online assessments but just waiting to hear back on if I’m in invited to assessment centre.
Anyone else applied for the same role or in a similar position?

I have, same boat as you as well in regards to progress. I've had the availability form sent to me to submit but no official invite from there. I've assumed I'm on a reserve list

Does anyone have any idea what ‘level’ the maths test at the assessment center is like?
Is it GCSE level? basic? A-Level etc?

I went for a substation advanced apprentice role and I didn’t have to do a maths test

There is definitely movement with availability as some candidates can’t make the AC date or don’t want to travel for it so hopefully you’ll get an invite soon.

Ah happy days. Well done on passing the online tests then mate. You’re one step further ahead of me then because I’ve not been sent that form yet. I was a bit late to the party though and only did my online assessments about a week ago so hopefully it will still come.

Appreciate that mate, same to you. Hopefully you get slotted in very soon, I think the week commencing 10th is the only week left for us as that was stated in my availability form, for the overhead lines advanced apprenticeship interviews. It potentially could be the case that they're just running a bit behind so everything is coming in last minute compared to other roles where invites have been sent 2 weeks before. I've just had my status in the portal change today from Hiring Review to Assessment centre, but no invite email as of yet. I'm more hopeful but waiting for the email to come in to be for sure. It's either them running behind on the last batches or someone could have dropped out and I might've been given the slot for my location

Honestly I wasn't very hopeful as my one is virtual for 45 minutes lol, but the status in the portal has changed for me today from hiring review to assessment centre...just waiting for an invite email to come in to be sure that it's not a glitch

Hi, I’ve applied for the fitter advanced apprentice role and been sent the form but nothing further. I wasn’t aware invites were sent 2 weeks in advance and wasn’t aware there were multiple AC’s can applicants for different roles be on the same AC?

Oh! Weird - My assessment center ‘plan’ mentions a 30 minute maths test, but no actual topic on what it’s about, did your plan mention one and you just didn’t have to do one?

I just checked and there wasn’t mention of a maths test - I took part in 3 assessments that were a hand skills test, a group exercise and a strength based interview. I used the mobile platform too to check that I coped OK with heights.

I’m not sure about different roles at the same AC but I know there are quite a few ACs going on though - for instance, at my AC I was the only one being interviewed that day for my specific substation but there were other candidates for my substation but they attended ACs on different dates to me.

Most of the people before had that much notice, with now being the last few roles to go I imagine there's a possibility that we're getting last minute ones crammed in with it being close to the end, alternatively we might just be on a reserve list in case of drop outs. For my location and role it's seems to be a 45 minute virtual interview and then at a later date after passing through the interview a working at heights assessment. So might not be a typical AC that everyone else has had where there's multiple participants and group activities but also this may just be the case for the OHL roles.

I've still not had any invite yet and the selection for my role and others in the availability form are all next week but I've had my status change today from "hiring manager review" to "assessment centre", it might be worth checking yours on the portal as well in case there's that update and you're just still due to get the invite email

I hope you hear some good news soon regarding your AC! I've got mine for a higher apprenticeship this week, have you got any tips or remember any questions you got asked?
