Have you done this before, is it literally just this, as I've got this coming up. Is there not more to it?

Congratulations mate! And nah not done it before just got mentioned in the interview invite as the next stage from there. I'm pretty sure that's it after the working at heights assessment but I don't have solid confirmation just deducted that as not made it that far. The assessment centres are the last stage of the process so you've pretty much made it once you've cleared them, alternative to the ACs you might have an interview and then an assessment relevant to the role for example the working at heights assessment; post interview or assessment centre most of the legwork is done, you've just got to demonstrate that you can safely work at heights and comfortable with it. Fairly confident that there's nothing else after that just an offer and background checks. Good luck and wish you the best

Out of interest, has anyone received reimbursement for their expenses relating to the AC? My AC was nearly 8 weeks ago and I’m still waiting for the money to drop into my account.

I went for a substation advanced apprentice role and I didn’t have to do a maths test

Don’t know if this is too late or not but when I went for my Higher Substation Apprenticeship AC the maths test was kind of mixed with parts of gcse and a level maths, things like simultaneous equations, integration, and sequences

Anyone had any offers yet after their AC?

Yes got the offer this Monday, about 3-4 weeks after my AC. Super excited for beginning a new chapter in my career

Hi mate congratulations 👍🏻 was your AC on 25th March? I had an assessment centre for a substation higher apprenticeship role on that date but still haven't heard anything

I had an AC on the 9th April, heard back today to say I didn't get an offer. Odd that you still haven't had a reply yet.

Yeah it seems a bit long winded but I'm still hoping something good comes of it all 🤞🏻 I am sorry you didn't get your offer, did you apply for anywhere else? What job did you apply for with Ng?

Had a phone call yesterday from National Grid saying a slot had opened for the same role I applied for and offered me the position so couldn't be happier. I applied for Advanced Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship. Have you heard anything back yet?

Fairplay to you mate, that's great news 👍🏻 congratulations 🎉🍻 I heard back 7 weeks to the day after my assessment centre, unfortunately I didn't get the job. Gutted! but it is what it is I suppose. They did say if any other roles opened up then my application would be considered so I'm hoping something similar could happen the same as your situation. I won't hold my breath but you never know! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Guys out of curiosity, who went to an assessment centre and did group activities for the field roles like Jointing, Overhead Lines, Substations and Fitting, what were the group activities and what were they like?

Ahh man that's unfortunate! I thought the same as you, just gave up, but then I got the email asking if I'd like the job so definitely don't lose all hope!

Tbh it doesn't look great! I think if they do the same with me as they did with you, I will be very lucky. I have applied for other roles so I'm hoping the outcome for one of those might go a bit better haha congrats again buddy 👍🏻 I hope you enjoy your new role and I wish you all the best

For my AC, it's a position (Advanced Vehicle Mechanic) they haven't had as an apprenticeship before so it was all recycled stuff from other positions. We had essentially a map, with a list of locations that had lost power and their power consumptions i.e. Hospitals, Schools, Old People Homes etc. We had to rank them in order of priority for restoring their power, factoring in the pros, cons etc. Each person got given a sheet with 2 locations, you'd have a couple of minutes to review them and then pitch your ideas and concerns to the rest of the group before all coming together to rank the priority scale. When I asked, they explained that it was a task that was used in the majority of their ACs, but there's a chance this may not be what you experience.
