Aston University vs BCU vs Coventry University for Civil Engineering

I was hoping to get some advice on what university I should choose to study Civil Engineering. I was studying MEng Civil Engineering at the University of Brighton, however left at the beginning of second year to transfer to a university closer to home. These are the offers I received:

Coventry University - BEng Civil Engineering - Y2 Entry (with the option to change to MEng and do an industrial placement)

Aston University - MEng Civil Engineering with Industrial Placement - Y2 Entry

BCU - BEng Civil Engineering - Y2 Entry (with the option of a industrial placement but no MEng)

I am unsure of which is the best option to pick in terms of course quality and graduate/career prospects. I was going to just choose CU as it’s a shorter commute than to Birmingham and I really liked the vibe I got on the open day but I also want to pick the best option for my career. I haven’t visited BCU since 2022 when I was initially applying and I’ve never been to Aston.

Any advice or opinions would be incredibly helpful, thank you
Go and visit
Check the accreditation levels for each course
Ask for more details and to speak to final year students who had a placement year to find out how much support the university provides. Generally this is something Aston does better than most universities but it's worth finding out from students directly.
Hi,
Although all three are excellent courses I am sure you will enjoy may I recommend Coventry University. Our courses offers a familiar environment with a shorter commute, which can reduce daily stress. The course flexibility (starting with a BEng and the possibility to upgrade to an MEng with an industrial placement year) provides a balance between academic progression and practical experience. We are also a short train ride away from Birmingham so you can find placements with larger Birmingham based construction companies if you wanted to without leaving Coventry. This pathway can increase job prospect while allowing you to adapt your studies based on your evolving career goals. If a supportive campus vibe and convenience are priorities, Coventry could be an excellent choice for your Civil Engineering studies.
Hope this helps with your decision
