Substituting UCAS choices
So I am trying to change one of my choices (Royal Holloway G462) to another course but just at the same university (Royal Holloway G40F) but UCAS does not allow this when substituting choices, it has to be a completely different university so how can I do this?
I contacted the admissions office for RHUL asking if they are able to just consider me for G40F without having to go through UCAS but I have to wait and see what they say, if they can't then what can I do?

[EDIT] edit feature not working for some reason
I checked online and it says I have to contact the university directly and if they agree then they will tell UCAS; so it seems mostly resolved. If you have anything else to add please do because I am still not completely sure.

That's the case yes, you can only swap a choice with another uni. A course swap at a current choice has to be done by the uni itself, so you've done the right thing getting in touch with them. In most cases it not a big deal, but if there are limited places then in theory they could decline.
If someone is in a similar scenario, (and is within 14 days of submitting), hypothetically they could swap around two choices. Another uni to the correct course at RH, then the original RH slot to the same course + uni that was just switched out. However at this point both would be flagged as late applications, so I wouldn't recommend it.
In the majority of cases the uni will just make the swap.

That's right - substituting only works if you're changing the university
A course change at a university is done by the university if they agree.
