What to do at Uni when you arent going out?

Im enjoying Uni on the whole and go out like 3-4 nights a week, but on the other days in the evening I dont really know what to do I get back at like 6PM, have a meal and then like dont really do anything else for the rest of the night. I just watch alot of youtube/netflix.

What do you guys do during when you get back if you arent doing anything?

Hi there,

This is a great question! Watching YouTube/Netflix are a great way to chill. I think getting outside is always a great option, going for a walk or run and recharging is something I did a lot whilst at uni. If you like being creative, then doing a craft night is something you could do yourself or with others. Reading a book is something I also did when I had nights to myself or listening to a podcast whilst cleaning. Have a think about what your hobbies may be or interest and look into clubs or societies relevant to the interest you have. 🙂

Hope this helps,
^Zac

Hi @donttouchminors

What year are you currently in?

Some great ideas in the previous response!

To be honest most nights I am still doing uni work after 6pm 🥲 So me and my flatmates usually go to the library together. Nothing too exciting.

We also cook dinner/tea for each other as we take turns throughout the week. So maybe cooking with friends or baking could be fun. Also we start TV series or films together and watch each night.

Apart from that I am catching up life tasks like doing laundry. I also call/face time friends and family from home.

I do have cheerleading two nights a week, so maybe joining a society would be a fun way to try something new. Other options could be going to the gym
In the past I have also started learning French through the Kingston language scheme, this was one two hour lesson a week I would attend, maybe your uni does something similar.

I hope this helps

Honestly thats a brilliant balance! I'm in my final year now, and I've realised is good to have some stay-at-home days sometimes, otherwise I'm tiring myself out haha.

I probably just relax as well! I like doing my hobbies on these kinds of days, stuff I do on my own but still enjoy like crocheting or playing games

Hi there,

There are some great ideas here and I agree that it can be hard sometimes to think of fun things too do that aren't going out.
Here are some of my favourite things to do at uni that don't involve drinking:

1.

I like going on a walk in the evening, however it is usually best to do this with someone else if it is dark! Or, you could go earlier on in the day if you don't have uni until later and then at least you feel like you have had some fresh air!

1.

I also like doing some form of arts and crafts - colouring, painting are a few examples!

1.

You could also do some kind of at home workout if you have the space.

1.

Reading a book

1.

Catch up on uni work/reading

1.

Tidy/organise your room

1.

Baking

1.

Games night with friends

I hope some of this helps!

Hi,

I remember back in first and second year I would spend more nights out than nights in, and I felt so down or regretful on nights I would stay in and do nothing. I was always making plans with friends to visit new places, and eat new foods. But now in my third year, all I want is to just stay in whenever I can.

When I do have the privilege to rest and chill from uni workload, I would binge all the shows I've bookmarked on netflix, rot in bed scrolling through tiktoks, or go on teleparty with friends and watch films together. But if I feel like getting active, I would go for dance classes at this studio I love.

Hi there,

evenings in can be a great time to get to know your flatmates - if you're looking for a more relaxed night but still some fun you could try going out for dinner together. Or if you're feeling drained from a few big nights out, i'd catch up on some coursework if you have any, make a quick dinner and have a chill evening.
I also found my 'nights off' were a great reset time, i could do my laundry, have a shower and relax in bed - don't feel bad for having some nights during the week where not much happens - or you'll burn out.

If however you do find yourself bored i know friends who've joined sports societies for the training sessions, got a gym membership or do something with your course friends/ flatmates.

Hope this helps

Hiya!

There are so many things you can get up to - I often find I don't have enough time!

I usually either work on university assignments (unfortunately, as a third-year student, this is how I spend most of my evenings 🥲), pick up extra hours at my part-time job, or do something fun like going to the gym, playing games with friends, watching tv and films, cooking, reading, or even crocheting. I also use the time to catch up on chores and FaceTime friends and family.

Maybe try picking up a new hobby or setting little goals for yourself in the evenings—it makes the time feel way more productive! 😊

Hope this provides some inspiration!

Hello there.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to maybe go to a pub quiz night.
