GCSE options (yes I'm still young)

Well, for starters I'm in Year 8 and my school is making me pick my options now and I have no idea what I should pick. I'll put an asterisk (*) on what I want and show you guy the blocks.

Block 1 Block 2 Block 3 Block 4

History* Performing Arts Geography Triple Science*
DT* Spanish* History* RE*
Art Art Music* Construction*
Business Photography* PE* Spanish
Computer Science*

My school said they might change it or something.
Any ideas?
That's too many subjects if you ask me. Drop it down to 10.

You can only pick one from each block I think.

We give students a free choice and then block ...

i do AQA DT and it's fine for me but you should have some ability for creative ideas as we do a project for a certain theme and thats 50% of our gcse as coursework (I started it around the end of yr10) and also we need to memorise quite alot of theory like materials.
triple science isn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to be (in our school we have to take triple not combined) and it's definitely a required if you wanna do medicine or smth.
RE is sooo easy cos i did eduqas and honestly it's a free 7-9 for most people, but it may be harder for other exam boards.
other than those i don't do any of those subjects but these seem fine to me tbh 😭 when i was in yr9 i was so stressed on what to pick, but now i'd say it doesn't matter too much and just pick what you like the sound of and maybe check the specs.

If i did that many gcses i would go mad. Check with your school on how choosing works as that wayyyyyy to many

Way too many GCSEs - take 10 or 11 at most but more subjects than that isn't even gonna help with your application at all.

thanks 4 the help guys I don't know if I told you this but my school is making me choose my options in Y8 so I was like,

''That's quite young for me to choose my options so early but okayyyy...''

So here I am impressing my teachers so that I don't have beef with any of them.

When it comes to GCSEs what matters most is that you choose the subjects you enjoy and at an amount that is manageable. As for impressing your teachers - they won’t even be around when you submit your uni application. You’ll be at sixth form college then with different teachers who will only know your GCSE grades and how you perform in your a levels or whatever programme it is you want to take at sixth form. You don’t need to take a ridiculous amount of subjects just so your high school teachers will treat you a little bit better - what will impress everyone is if you pick your subjects and the amount smartly and excel at them. Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm year 11 and this is my personal thoughts on each subject
History - lot of content but it's easy to remember/ stories. 7/10
Performing Arts - my friend does this and finds it ok, the exam is pretty hard & you're not really 'taught' 5/10
Geography - I do this and love it so bit biased - you learn content in not too much depth and then have to apply it 9/10
Triple Science - if you're good at science do it, if not don't. It's ok, I personally hate physics 7.5/10
*DT* - I have friends who do this and can't lie if you don't have a good teacher it is really hard + a lot of work 5/10
Spanish* - really depends on your teachers, I do french and latin and have a bad french teacher and amazing latin teacher 6/10
RE - I find this fine because it's a lot of common sense - but you need to be good(ish) at English to write good essays.
Art - DON'T DO ART my friends do it, hate it, there's so much coursework and no reward unless you want to be an artist 2/10
Music* - did this early, if you're grade 3/4+ in an instrument would recommend but otherwise not a good pick
Construction* - we do not have this but sounds cool!
Business - don't have this either
Photography* - I would be worried if I had to take this but idk we don't have this
PE* - if you're sporty do it if you're not then don't
Computer Science - my school has terrible comp sci teachers - don't pick it if you're not actually interested.

Just a note on PE - yea you do have to be sporty but a lot of it is learning about the human body as well (effectively loads of advanced biology). It can be a lot of work so don’t do it if you’re not into science as well

Hi, I am in a similar position to you (but in Y9), here are my block choices:
· Block A - French German
· Block B - Art Economics French Geography Product Design
· Block C - Art Economics Geography History Music
· Block D -Economics History Latin Music Product Design
Core Subjects: Math, English Lang, English Lit, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
If it helps, I'm (probably) taking German (A), Geography (B), Economics (C) and History/Music (D). Just choose what you personally want to study.

hey I do history and triple science
imo triple science is not that hard compared to how ppl make it out to be, sure certain sciences are better than others but rlly you can apply the same revision techniques to all of them and content is spread nicely across y10 and y11.
with history (I do aqa) mind u it's a lot of content I won't lie and if your not willing to put in the effort to memorise don't bother. not to scare u but all the history content for me took up abt 3 folders. other than that I quite enjoy history and I think if you don't enjoy history and the stuff you learn, you are going to struggle. and also don't be scared abt the essays in history, you'll end up getting used to them and better at them the more you do.
hope this helped 😊

I'm doing a forum game thingy so check it out

I did history, geography and French. History was the most interesting to me but the most work. Geography is also interesting but also depends on the physical side e.g rivers or what you topics enjoy. Triple science isn’t that bad but you should probably only choose it if you enjoy it because there’s a lot of content
