Leeds or Nottingham for law?

I’ve got back an offer to do law at Nottingham with AAB, but not heard yet from Leeds. Still, if both come through what would people recommend? And why? Thanks

I'm not sure about law but Nottingham is pretty well regarded—had some friends who went there. I've heard Leeds in good, but I don't hear about them too much here in the US—it could just be me.

I'd say notts, but honestly, go with what you are feeling.

Thanks! I’m going to look at Nottingham and already been round Leeds. Leeds is a really nice place with lots to do in my opinion.

What led you to pick there? And how are you finding it? I know these are quite general but anything helps really. I love Leeds but I have to acknowledge Nottingham is higher for law rn haha

So i loved the campus and i thought it was really good for my career aspirations as a commercial lawyer which well in that regards it has been great since i have secured a tc. Im not really one for analysing which uni to go to also i just went with my gut. BUT, if i were to give advice on how to differentiate between unis, id say look at the way the content is taught, is it lectures, seminars, tutorials or a mix. Look at whether firms market at such unis (if you wanna go into commercial law). Also, leeds got a city campus whereas notts has a campus campus sort of outside the main city so thats a big difference.

And with how i am finding it, well it has been great so far if i were to go back in time i would not try to convince myself to go to another uni. I think at times it can be quite frustrating with the lack of transparency and urgency with senior members of staff, to give an example they changed the way we get examined from 24 hours to 3 hour exams with the same exact content, like i dont understand how that makes sense to keep the content but decrease the hours but anyway, the work is not too easy and not too hard, and lectuers are happy to answer question via email or in person at any time. Notts is known for its nightlife and i can attest to it, it is great and very fun, very lively and sociable city. I could go on and on but yeah im enjoying it.

also, I want to preface that no matter which uni u choose there will NOT be a major advantage or disadvantage to your future career. Focus more on the life of the city, the style of teaching, examining etc rather than rankings. its better to be happy at a uni than sad at a 'higher ranked' uni.

Thanks so much 😊 I totally get what you’re saying about going off other things before ranking, but I think that’ll end up being the deciding factor if I love them both equally. Good to know about the exam situation you’ve had though! Food for thought.

How do you find the city/nightlife? Will it be interesting enough to last three years in your opinion?

Ignore rankings. Law firms ignore them, and so should you.

That’s true! I’m looking round Notts on 23rd April but leaning towards Leeds as my offer has been reduced to ABB for access, whilst Notts only moved down AAA to AAB

Leeds conditions are too good to be true. Really irresistible.

The offers from Leeds and Nottingham are so close. Maybe you could also look into their course modules to see whether they have some really specialised, uncommom modules that attract you e.g. sports law and medical law, in making your final decision.

Honestly module wise I’m not too bothered! I did a placement at a law firm and the parts of law I found most interesting are done at both Leeds and Notts, and their modules don’t particularly draw me either way 😅
