stuck between economics or finance for uni courses

I really want to study finance and accounting at LSE but at the same time, economics and management at Oxford. But I know I can't pick these different courses for my university options because it will weaken my personal statement if I write more about one thing than the other. What should I do? I'd do economics for all my unis but I don't do further maths so my chances of getting in would be pretty low. Essentially finance would be my only option here but what do you guys think

I'm not saying you are doing this, but it can be very easy to get wrapped up in the prestige of a uni. In my opinion, you should focus on applying to the course you're interested in and that course appears to be Economics.

I know your lack of further maths is making you feel it's unlikely you'll get on an economics course, but you can get into many 'top' unis for Economics without further maths. But if you are still uncertain about that, potentially Economics and Management or even PPE may be more suited to your interests rather than Accounting and Finance in my opinion.

But you may want to consider what you want to do post-uni and how your degree will support that, for example, exemptions from an A&F degree may be helpful to become a chartered accountant. Also, look at the modules for any course you're interested in and see if they interest you.

Good luck.

Hi (2nd year banking and finance student here) okay good advice from what the other person said. But maybe I can provide a different perspective. So basically, if ur interested in just LSE, then I would go for economics and management, or if they offer just a single “economics Bsc” then take just the economics. If you can stay away from anything with “management” I personally would. Now, u said u don’t do further maths, I’m pretty sure that’s one of the requirements (if ur school offers it) so it would be very slim. But down to the point, economics is maths, and quite frankly one of the most rigorous forms of it 🤣. You need to prepare urslef for it, ESPECIALLY at LSE, where ur practically expected to know it. Maybe consider another university, and another course. Might I suggest Swansea, Cardiff, bath, Manchester etc for maybe something like “economics and finance” where you can get the best of both worlds. Any more questions feel free to ask

There are two main reasons to not to do anything management related at uni. One of the reasons is it’s very vague and doesn’t actually give u real life management experience you’re better off getting a manager job at Lidl etc. Second being, is that u can get the same amount of skill quality from another qualification that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg with real world management. In this case with LSE, with economics it would be good but management just in a whole at uni not soo good. As u basically learn marketing in finance, accounting and even in economics. If you want to go into anything FINANCE related! Which YOU do! Personally I would stay away from anything management for the things I have stated. This is my opinion though, you’re more than welcome to disagree.
