Broken oven in student house.

I moved into a house in September and ever since the move in our oven has been non-functional. The hobs work but are janky but the oven doesnt work at all. Our landlady bought an air fryer which I dont believe is a suitable replacement for an oven. Is she required to repair/replace the oven or do I just have to deal with it?

Is an oven listed as part of the facilities in your rental contract?

You said originally that the air fryer was added later?

Yeah sorry it came with an air fryer that was also broken so instead of repairing/replacing the oven she replaced the air fryer

Ok, got you. Well, if an oven isn't specified I'm not sure you can do much about it. She has provided a mechanism for cooking a lot of dishes that would otherwise require an oven.

Are there no laws about white goods for a student household?
Had a quick look and I couldn't find anything about them being obliged to provide cooking appliances.

No worries. I'm not an expert so that was just a quick google. It may be worth asking your uni accommodation team about landlord obligations. Even if it is not uni-managed, they should know any current regs.

I did do some research and im pretty sure this property is technically a HMO property as it contains 3 people from different households. HMO properties require a working hob and oven if my research was right, could you confirm if you know anything about this?

Aha! That's an interesting point that I hadn't considered! I just had a quick look at HMO regulations, but from first glance each council appears to have its own regulations. However, the first two I looked at both listed an oven. Which council do you come under?

Unfortunately I don't, I just had a look at a few results after googling "landlord obligations student housing".
