I recently received an offer for Law at Durham, and I am now in the process of ranking colleges. I'm definitely leaning towards the Bailey colleges (University College, Hatfield, St. Chad's, St. Cuth's and St, John's), as well as St. Mary's.
For Law specifically, which colleges would you recommend out of these? I'm looking for an academically driven college with good resources for Law. Also, out of these colleges, how likely am I to get allocated a single room ensuite if I have a health issue that requires it?
Any guidance is greatly appreciated, thank you so much!
The choice of college is more a social one at Durham since the degree is taught via the law school and not through the college itself. Castle (University College) is the most over subscribed and so will probably have the fewest options for ensuite rooms. If that is the most important factor you should consider the Hill colleges as they are typically newer and better equipped.

Hiya,
Congratulations on your offer! I'd recommend having a read through What you need to know about the undergraduate collegiate system – The Durham Student as it explains how the collegiate system works at Durham and tips on college rankings 🙂 Colleges are essentially are social hubs and a place for you to stay, and are not really connected to your course so I would not recommend ranking your college based on which one is academically driven since colleges have a wide variety of courses; perhaps think about whether you want catered or self catered colleges? Help! How do I pick a college? – The Durham Student is a great blog detailing the different ways you can go about choosing a college such as location, facilities, catered vs self catered, gowned or non gowned, hill vs bailey, etc. In terms of ensuite, not all colleges offer ensuite rooms or some have very few that it is a bit competitive but if you do have a health condition with a certificate to prove it then it will be taken into account once the allocation process starts (if not, then reallocation based on health reasons is plausible). Hill colleges tend to have more ensuite options so if having an ensuite room is really important then I would have a look at the hill colleges.

This is the exact same as me lol. Which ones did you end up ranking as top 5?
Oooh, it was such a long time ago now. I think it was St Chad’s, St Mary’s, Castle, St John’s and Grey. Ended up with Grey, pretty happy with that! What about you? Hope you got the outcome you were hoping for
