Why choose Oxford to pursue higher education as an international student?

💬 Why is Oxford better than other UK cities for international students?

📌 Oxford is an ideal city for international students. It offers a unique and welcoming environment bursting with things to do, see and experience. Oxford is globally recognized as a hub of academic excellence and intellectual rigor, home to the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University!

The city, with its strong academic culture, provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for anyone pursuing higher education. Whether you’re looking for history, culture or green spaces, or a buzzing nightlife and diverse community, you’ll get the best of both worlds in Oxford.

Oxford is also known for its diverse student population with international students from all over the world, creating a multicultural environment that enriches the university experience, creating the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds, share experiences and build a global network of friends and professional contacts.

Finally, the cost of living in Oxford tends to be more manageable than in larger cities like London, with affordable housing, transport and food options.

Therefore, living in Oxford means:

🏛️ Cultural and Historical Significance, with access to academic resources and historical landmarks;

🌐 Diverse and Vibrant International Student Community with plenty of cultural and social opportunities;

💰 Affordability Compared to Larger Cities;

💂🏻 Proximity to London (just an hour by train! 🚆) and Other Key UK Cities.

🎓 Bonus: Oxford is not just about academics—it’s about experiences. See for yourself through our virtual campus tour!

Hi there @Anonymous #1

Thanks for your query and interest in Oxford Brookes!

We offer a range of Nursing degrees, including Adult Nursing (offered at both our Oxford and Swindon campuses), Children's Nursing and Mental Health Nursing. The entry requirements for these 3 courses for USA applicants are:

High School Graduation Diploma with GPA 3.0 (including one science subject) + passing relevant subjects in your school leaving qualification for English Language, Mathematics and Science (i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.), where a passing grade is = GPA 2.0 (70%)

For further information on this, please visit the USA country page on our website.

To obtain a visa for studying at Oxford Brookes University, you will generally need to apply for a Student visa (formerly Tier 4) if you are a non-EU/EEA student. The process includes:

To apply and receive an offer from us, and complete the CAS application process (the University will assist you throughout); once this is completed successfully, you will be issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from us, which is is a crucial document for your visa application;

You will need to meet the eligibility criteria for a Student visa (i.e. proof of sufficient funds for your studies and living expenses, among other things), and that you have your documents ready (CAS document, passport, financial evidence etc.);

You apply for your visa through the UK Government website (gov.uk)

Last but not least, for international scholarships and financial support please visit our pages below:
I hope this helps, do reach out if anything is unclear! If you require additional details, feel free to email the Admissions team on [email protected].

Alternatives to your English Language Requirements 🇬🇧

If you are an international student who holds an offer with us, then it is very likely that one of your conditions of offer is to provide an English language qualification, such as IELTS 6.0 overall or IELTS 6.5 overall, and that one of your concerns is:

💬 "What if I don’t meet the IELTS requirement, or if I don't even have IELTS?"
📌 Well, the good news is... We offer alternatives for English proficiency!

That is right! IELTS is not the only acceptable qualification at Oxford Brookes. While it is one of the most popular exams out there, we are happy to consider a wide variety of alternatives in lieu of IELTS. These include all the ones listed here, which are:

Pearson Test of English (PTE)

Kaplan Test of English (KTE)

TOEFL

IGCSE Grade C in English as First Language or English as Second Language

Cambridge English: C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency - CEFR B2 overall and in all components on the Cambridge English Scale Score (160-179)

💡 We also accept country specific qualifications, examples of which include:

India: Standard 12th, with English score of 60% or higher - depending on the exam board;

Grade C6 in English from Senior School Certificate awarded by West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or Nigerian Examinations Council (NECO) (upon verification done by the Admissions team);

Kenya: Grade C in English from Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education at Ordinary Level;

Spain: Grade 8 in English from Titulo de Bachiller / Grade 8 in English Language in Título de Bachillerato;

Germany: Grade 10 in English from Abitur/ Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife;

Singapore: Grade C6 in English from Cambridge/Singapore O Level.

To find out which qualification we can accept in lieu of IELTS from your country, please visit our Country page.

You can also reply to this post below, or contact the Admissions team via email ([email protected]) or phone (on +44 (0) 1865 535 000) for any questions or additional guidance regarding your qualifications.

How to meet your conditions of offer as an international student!

If you are a September 2025 offer holder, then first off, a massive congratulations on receiving your offer from us! 🥳
As an international student you’re probably working towards gathering all your documents to meet all the conditions listed in your offer letter before you start your course. This is an important step in ensuring you’re fully prepared for your university journey. So let's dive into how you can make sure you are ready to begin this exciting new chapter journey!

📋 Academic documents:

If you're finishing your studies this year, it's likely that your offer includes a condition related to your Bachelor's degree score (such as 60% or 70%) or degree classification (2:2, 2:1, etc.). To meet this requirement, all you need to do is upload or email a copy of your official degree certificate and transcript confirming your final degree award to [email protected];

If you've already completed your studies, simply provide your completed qualifications, and you’re all set!

🖊️ Reference Letter:

If you did not provide this at the application stage, then it is likely we asked you to provide a reference letter as part of your conditional offer. This can be academic (from a previous tutor) or professional (from your former or current employer) and must meet the following requirements:

on official headed paper / letterhead

dated within the last 12 months (recent)

signed by the referee

🇬🇧 English Language qualifications for academic and UKVI purposes:

If English isn’t your first language, you’ll need to show that your skills are strong enough for university. The most common requirement is a specific score in the IELTS Academic test. If you wish to sit an alternative test, please refer to our list of alternative acceptable English qualifications here. This proof of your English skills is also needed for your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) and student visa applications.

If you have any queries, concerns or worries about your conditional offer, the documents you need to provide, and how to meet your conditions of offer, simply reply to this post or contact the Admissions team using the details here:

Phone: + 44 (0) 1865 535000

Thank you so much for this well detailed passage. I have a conditional offer for the MA Global Development and Humanitarian Practice. Just wondering if there are any part-time/student jobs that will help me cover some of the needed tuition fees and accommodation? I am from Malawi, by the way. I am a humanitarian with a background of human resource management and administration.

How to pay your deposit to confirm your place at Oxford Brookes

If you're an international student with a conditional offer from Oxford Brookes University, you'll likely need to pay a £3,000 deposit to confirm your place and enter CAS Shield to start your CAS application.

The good news is... this deposit will be deducted from your first tuition fee payment, meaning it's not an extra cost—just an advance on your tuition fees! 💸

And don't worry —if you paid your deposit, but you're unable to start in September, or decide not to study at Oxford Brookes any longer, we’ll refund your deposit based on the University's refund policy.

How to pay your deposit

1.

Option 1 - pay by card: Sign in to your Applicant Portal and follow the instruction to pay your deposit by card. Please note, you will need to have accepted your offer in order to pay your deposit.

2.

Option 2 - pay by bank transfer: If you are unable to pay by card, you can pay your deposit by bank transfer using our online payment system. You will need your 8 digit applicant ID and your date of birth to sign in to the payment system. A variety of payment options will be offered. You can select bank transfer or any of the options that are most suitable for you. Please check your offer letter for the deposit amount you need to pay.

Of course, please ensure you pay before our deposit deadline.
You can refer to our application dates and deadlines for 2025 entry so you do not miss out!

Applying for a Student Visa: What You Need to Know About Your CAS

If you’re an international student planning to study in the UK, one of the key steps in your journey is getting your Student visa (formerly known as a Tier 4 visa). To apply for this visa, you’ll first need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

Your CAS is an essential document issued by the university confirming that you’ve been accepted onto a course, and it provides the details the UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) needs to process your visa application.

The process for receiving your CAS may vary slightly depending on your circumstances, so it’s important to follow the correct steps based on your situation. Make sure you’ve completed everything required on your end so your CAS can be issued without delays. For further guidance on this or for more information, please click here.

If you’re unsure about anything or need some guidance, don’t worry— our ISAT (International Student Advice Team) is here to help. Reach out to them with any questions about your visa or CAS process using these details.

Make sure you know the financial evidence needed for your CAS application, including how much money you need to have in your bank account, as explained in detail on this page.

We hope this is useful. Reach out to our Admissions Team if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes

Applying for Accommodation at Oxford Brookes (for September 2025)

As an international student preparing to study at Oxford Brookes in September 2025, one of the first important tasks on your list is securing your accommodation, and securing the right accommodation for you can significantly impact your experience and comfort during your studies.

Here's what you need to know about applying for student accommodation at Oxford Brookes for the September 2025 intake.

Oxford Brookes offers a variety of accommodation choices to suit different preferences, budgets, and needs.

Our hall options, contract lengths and prices are the same for all of our students, including International students.

All students are mixed within our halls so we do not have any specific areas dedicated to home/international students. Applicants can request single gender accommodation.

Accommodation contracts will often not cover the full duration of your course. You will likely have to book further accommodation and/or change halls during the duration of your studies.

You will be living in halls, allowing you to meet new people, join social events and make yourself at home

Our halls have hall staff on site 24/7, ensuring you feel safe and supported

The accommodation application process is the same for all students.

We also offer inclusive accommodation options. We recognise that each student will have a unique set of needs and preferences, which is why we have a number of different accommodation types and application processes to ensure as many of our students as possible feel supported and comfortable in halls at Oxford Brookes University.

Finally, we also have separate accommodation options for undergraduate and postgraduate students (course specific accommodation), which you can learn more about here. Students on the following courses require specific types of accommodation: BA Primary; PGCE; Nursing; Midwifery; Art Foundation and Paramedic Science.

To apply for accommodation, please visit this link: How to apply? You will need to create an account on the Brookes Accommodation Portal. If you’ve already received your offer to study at the university, you’ll be able to log in with your student details. If not, you can still create a profile and be notified when applications open. You will then be able to choose your preferred type of accommodation, and finally once you've completed your preferences, you can submit your application. Be sure to double-check your details and preferences before you hit "submit."
Once you receive an outcome from your application, you will need to confirm your acceptance within a specified time. Once accepted, you can start planning your arrival and packing!

For accommodation fees, please visit this page: Accommodation fees.

To contact the Accommodation team and discuss your options, please use the details below or here:
