Be specific in what healthcare roles you will need, I am in year 12 and I did not pay attention as to what I need to know
First step I would advice you to get good GCSE'S like 7+ most med schools consider GCSE which is quite stupid because I got a 5 in language and an 8 in literature
Second step : Study at least two sciences for your a levels third subject can be anything you can have fun with
Third step :Find programs online for med school like BSMS and more but take it one step at at time first focus on gcse's and get those good grades

i was originally interested in radiography and paramedic science. avoided medicine first off as i didn’t think it was my scene and did a lot of research and now i like the idea of a junior doctor, progressing to a speciality

Well the obvious advice would be to do good in your academics but another thing I would recommend is enrol in as many courses as possible linked to medicine and there a lot of schemes that you may be able to apply and (from what I have heard) there are some schemes which if you partake in you get a guaranteed interview. Unfortunately I can't tell you much about those schemes since I didn't do those myself but I did enrol in many courses and virtual work experiences. What I would really recommend is the Medic Mentors course and get involved in the community and volunteer. Another tip is to have strong extra-curriculars (for example sports or musical instruments) they really help your application aswell.

I am currently in Year 13 so I may not be the best person to advise but if it makes you feel better I have received 1 offer 1 interview and very positive about receiving another interview and I only did half the stuff I listed above.

thank you so much for your reply! i think the extra curricular part is a big one, is there anything else apart from music do you know of? i’ve seen a lot of online work experience too, do you know if it’s possible to do any where you shadow a doctor for example

Well the Medic Mentor one is exactly that. Its an extensive course over a 6 month period covering a different part of medicine each month and you get to see some really interesting footage especially in the surgery part. I only said music because I thought it was easy to measure experience (by different grades and stuff) if you get what im saying otherwise sports martial arts and a few other may be better for the same reason.

If you want to shadow a doctor you're gonna have to work that out yourself like whether you have any contacts in the hospital which could get you in or maybe your school offers opportunities for this type of thing. Something I do know however is that some schools offer a Nursing Cadets club or something like that where you get a guaranteed work experience
