Essay Competition or EPQ?

Hi,

I’m planning on doing the Julia Wood History Essay competition. But, just out of curiosity before I commit when the competition starts, would there be any benefit of doing an EPQ over this.

I feel like they would serve the same purpose in the end, and because none of the unis I’m interested in offer lower entry requirements for EPQ, I think I’d rather do the competition. But, what do you think?

If you'd rather do the competition, then go for it!

EPQ would give you an additional qualification, but of course you should do something you'd rather be more passionate in. Of course, none of your unis have incentives for EPQ, so this only adds to it.

Do an EPQ only if you want to do one. Is there anything you are particularly interested in and would like to research for months?

100% enter the competition if you want to as well. I would strongly recommend entering more than one if you have the time, because they teach you a lot about academic writing.

If you want to do an EPQ and enter the competition, you can do both. There’s no need to commit at this stage, so why not sign up to both and see how it goes? You can always drop either at a later date (although you might annoy your EPQ supervisor/school).
