Cambridge Engineering Supercurriculars

Hi, I'm a year 12 student hoping to apply to Cambridge for engineering (and hopefully to specialise in mechanical engineering as well). I enjoy Maths and Physics, but have little to no experience in hands-on engineering activities /engineering-related supercurriculars as I just recently decided to pursue this course. I'm rather concerned as I fear that it's too late to start now from scratch.

Hence, I was wondering whether there are any supercurriculars I can do that can help me gain more insight into engineering while also strengthen my application as well. Are there any independent engineering projects one would recommend?

At the moment, I'm taking online courses on Python and hope to learn more about CAD, too. I am also looking into some books from the recommended list by Cambridge, and am hoping to have some work experience in the upcoming holidays.

Any other suggestions such as recommended activities, books, new skills to learn or anything related to mechanical engineering would be appreciated.

Thank you so much! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I applied to cambridge too, I got pooled however for me my interview and test did not go as well as I hoped and therefore I got far in my application owing to my Personal statement.
during year 12 I hadn't done so much extra curriculum bar a coding course like you on java.
Things which I did which are respected and expected by cambridge is taking part in any olympiad and competition
I received awards in maths olympiad and chem olympiad as well as camb competitions, this really helped and only takes a few hours of your time!!
I am a girl myself and with engineering being a male concentrated field I conducted outreach programs with local primary schools (several club sessions) to spark interest, thats a fun way to get in engineering activities.
Work Experience is a no1 - I did lots which focused my interest in engineering on several niche things which I read about and conducted my own projects (making more efficient solar panels for lights in cities... )
I hope this all helps
(ps in my interview they just asked maths q (no personal statement))
I didnt want to go to camb particularly but if its your dream i would reccomend over the summer you do loads of practice on ESAT
