Gloucester Uni: upgrade conditional offer?

Hiya,

I'm a mature student and I'm applying to study programming at Gloucester uni in September. Gloucester have given me a conditional offer based on me getting a suitable academic reference. I gave them details of my old professors but they've had no references yet, I think one of them is retired and the other one can't remember me maybe.

But Gloucester have said if I attend the Offer Holder Day which I've booked onto, they might upgrade me to unconditional. Has anyone been to one of these days? What will I need to do to get upgraded to unconditional? I'm studying programming online and maths on Khan Academy as much as possible so I'm not just crap on the day, but I'm wondering if there will be an interview or group interview or something? If anyone knows please let me know! Thank you

It sounds like Gloucester University is giving you an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment and potential at the Offer Holder Day to possibly upgrade your geometry dash offer to unconditional. While every university handles these events differently, here’s what you can likely expect and how to prepare:
What to Expect at the Offer Holder Day

1.

Meet Faculty & Staff You’ll likely have a chance to chat with lecturers and staff members.

2.

Taster Sessions Some universities include short lectures or hands-on activities related to your course.

3.

Interviews or Informal Chats If upgrading to unconditional is a possibility, you might have a one-on-one discussion with a tutor to assess your enthusiasm, skills, and suitability for the course.

4.

Assessment or Coding Challenges Some universities test applicants with practical tasks, but this isn’t always the case.

How to Improve Your Chances of an Unconditional Offer

Show Enthusiasm & Knowledge Talk about why you're passionate about programming, what you're learning online, and how you’re preparing for university.

Demonstrate Initiative Mention self-study efforts like Khan Academy, personal coding projects, or relevant experience.

Engage & Ask Questions Show that you're serious about the course by asking insightful questions about the curriculum, career paths, and university resources.

Prepare for a Possible Interview Be ready to discuss why you want to study programming, your strengths, and how you'll contribute to the university.

If you're worried about references, it’s also worth politely explaining your situation to the admissions team. Your dedication and willingness to learn could be enough to secure an unconditional place.
Good luck! Hope the Offer Holder Day goes well!
