2025/26 - I'm in process selling my home, trying to understand!

Hi,

I have just received an offer for my chosen university.

I will be staying there.

My current home life is a bit messy. I had moved out with my ex boyfriend, I am 24, will be 25 in July 2025 (before I start uni). I still technically am living there as the house sale is taking a lot longer than anticipated. Therefore, by the information I have read online, am I right in assuming I would have to include my ex-partners income on my form?

This is a really difficult situation as the house could take months to complete (when it does I would be moving back in with my parents). Obviously, I do not share expenses with my ex, and on top of this, I do not share expenses with my parents. I pay for everything solely and do not have financial support from them.

I am asking in advance because I would like to be as clued up as possible before the applications open.

Thanks in advance, Georgia

Hi Georgia, If you are aged 25 prior to the start of the academic year (usually 01/09/25 if starting a course from September onwards), then you would be classed as an independent student. That being said, we would also check to see what marital status you had selected at the time of submission of your application. If we do contact to request marital evidence from you for clarification, we would normally request the completion or the Marital Status Declaration form with as much information of the current marital situation.

If separated but still living with a spouse or partner student's can still be classed as separated, however this will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We will usually ask for the standard evidence to confirm separation. If however this is not possible to provide, you should send the Marital Status Declaration form and also a covering letter explaining the circumstances with any supporting evidence. A letter from your ex-partner will also help assessors to understand the current situation. Thanks, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you, that reassures me a bit that the process should be manageable.

Have a good day!
