Planning on changing unis this september

Hi all to who are reading this I am currently studying film 1st year at my current uni however I am not liking it as of today I have received all of 5 of my UCAS unconditional offers and want to withdraw from my current uni around end of April and attend my new Uni as a first year again. I have some questions for any experts in this:
1. If I withdraw before my next tuition fee payment what would happen?(im holding out for my loan)
2. If I accept one of my UCAS decisions does this like automatically kick me out of my Uni?
3. What would I tell SFE and how would all of that stuff workout?

1.

You won't need to pay the next tuition fee amount. You only need to pay for the lenght of time you spent at the uni.

2.

No, your current uni don't know anything regarding this.

3.

SFE will be fine. You have to reapply to it every year so just put new uni + first year on next years application. If they want you to pay back anything after you drop out then you will recieve a letter but thats nothing major don't worry about it. Also, SFE will cover the full lenght of your next degree so thats fine too.

If you withdraw from your course SFE will want you to repay any “overpaid” maintenance loan asap. That means if you withdraw just after you get your next maintenance loan instalment then they’ll expect you to return almost all of that instalment straight away.
If you need to keep your maintenance loan instalment order to cover your living costs for the rest of the year then you’ll need to complete your current year of study on your current course (you don’t have to pass the year- just engage with your course enough that you aren’t kicked off the course!).
How you apply for funding for next year is different depending on whether you withdraw before the end of the year or not. So you need to decide that first.
Your status on your current course is completely separate from your UCAS application for September onwards

What you have put in 3 is incorrect if a student has withdrawn from a course midway through the year. In that case they would need to start a new application as a new student not as a continuing student.

well yeah... I think thats common sense. New uni means new student not a continuing one. Anyone would understand that when doing the application lol

About this, you can call them and if you aren't able to pay it off straight away they will arrange a monthly repayment for as little as £10-20. So as I said it's not anything to worry about OP

So my current timetable lessons end on May 9 then we have have an assessment week around May 12 however considering im leaving there will be no point doing the assessment so would it be suitable to withdraw when my timetable says I finish on May 9th
Then how would i do the whole SFE for my new Uni as I want to restart again as a First Year at a different instutition
Also I thought we only payback the loan if we earn over 25k I had no idea you had to instantly repay?

If you leave before the final assessment then you won’t be a student between may 9 and September. If you’re not a student then you aren’t eligible for the proportion of your loan that is to support you for that time. That’s why it would need to be repaid outside the normal repayment system. Are you sure you want to leave without completing the final assessment? If you complete that then you complete the year and would be classed as a student for the full year including the summer.

How much is your final instalment and when is it due to be paid?

If you complete the year then you apply as a continuing student. If you leave before the end of the year then you apply as a new student (after the deadline where you would be guaranteed payment on time for the new year)

my final loan is due on 28 april and it is £2082.16
then assessment week would be 12-19 May
I understand it would be important to do the assessment which consists of coursework and a group presentation but this workload is so stressful and not suitable for me which is why I want to leave
but I intend to be a new student at a very new institution so I do wish to leave early but its the added stress of the whole repayment of the loan which I do not have a way of paying back except for my parents own money so I am so lost in this situation

If you don’t attend/attempt the assessment and are withdrawn on May 9 then I would expect SFE to ask you to return around half of that final instalment payment.

You don’t have to try to PASS those assessments - just submit something. Like I said above you just need to engage with the course enough that they don’t withdraw you from the course until August at which point you can let them know that you won’t return in September and have transferred instead.

Hi

I would reach out to your personal tutor and admissions advisors at the University, as they will be able to advise further about these matters, and help you to communicate with SFE about what you would need to do to transfer.

I hope this helps,

I have been offered an unconditional offer from my new uni I'm just so worried about the financial complications of it all plus I've failed 2 modules and I want to have this fresh start as a first year but I want to survive this current academic year furthermore theres going to be a months worth of strikes plus a holiday then I'll have 2 weeks of classes left

Hi, I am in a similar situation. I am planning to withdraw from my current course and start a new course with the same uni in September. if I leave my course early but just after I have already been paid the April maintenance loan and end up being overpaid, is it possible to set up monthly installments for repayment. This is a concern as I am wondering if they decide to deduct what I owe in maintenance loan in my new course of September I would struggle to cover my accomodation. is monthly payments an option for full time university students or is that just when you start earning?
