durham international freshers week

Hi! Im an international fee student with an english parent and I have gotten an offer from durham. Culturally, I'm really more english than anything else but im afraid that since im an international student ill kind of be excluded. Basiclally im worried about this since I've heard there's an international freshers week before the real one and im afraid that will cause real segregation between the two groups. Would it be possible for me to just attend the official freshers week despite being an international student or is it mandatory? Sorry if this all sounds a bit irrational but I just really want to make friends with the english crowd as I feel like im finally coming back home to england to study.

No worry.
As far as I know, home and international students go to the same freshers week. Durham uni accommodation (colleges) open early for all Year one (i.e. both home and international) students for the freshers week. The uni also operates a free meet and greet at Newcastle Castle Airport for all newcomers (i.e. home and international) a couple days before the freshers week.
Nothing is "reserved" only for home or international students.

Hi,

It is not mandatory to attend any of the freshers weeks, so if you don't want to attend the international freshers week, you can just skip it.

As a fellow international student, regardless of what you end up choosing to do, I think you'll find you'll make friends from every friend group irrespective of their background.

Good luck with freshers,
Lesath (Official DU Rep.)
