How Do I Enjoy My Own Company?

I have depression, I often ruminate a lot and I am extremely negative. I hate to say it but my behaviour and actions affects others and I hate that I did that to them. How do I enjoy my own company? How do I isolate myself from others?
I don't recommend isolating yourself from others even if you feel you're being negative around them. Being around people who you get on reasonably well with and who don't judge you for feeling unhappy, is therapeutic in itself. It's certainly difficult though and I get how you feel.

A lot of my relationships with friends became broken down because of me, I've lost so many opportunities because of my own behaviour, most of the reason why I ruminate is because of the way I acted. I have gotten myself into big heaps of trouble because of me.

Have you had any CBT or any other therapy? Sounds like it might be helpful

That being said, I feel like the damage has already been done, it's good to help myself and improve on myself, but my negative emotions and behaviour gets in the way of everything. There's times where I've said things that were meant to be completely innocent, but sound like something extremely inappropriate. Yeah ew.

It's great that you have reached out for some support right now. Depression and overthinking can feel really isolating because we ruminate evey tiny nuance that we trigger our senses. Sometimes it can help to stop a thought from progressing if we ask ourselves these three things- Is it useful, Is it kind (for you or others) is it true. Sometimes by just voicing those questions the negative thought can dissipate. Just something to try maybe. Are the people around you aware that you are feeling like this. Maybe you can support them to undeestand how your mind ruminates on things. Often a little understanding can go a long way. If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide at this difficult time, please reach out to Hopeline247 via telephone on 0800 068 41 41 or text message on 88247 for advice and support from a trained suicide prevention adviser.
