Attendance at uni

Is ok to not go to a uni lecture if you want to go an academic event on campus because there is only one date and it might show up in future but what if it doesn’t.

Missing an individual lecture like this is probably fine - especially if your uni records lectures so you can catch up. Just be careful not to make a habit of it.

Hi there!

Yes, this would be okay 🙂 Attending an academic event could be a valuable and insightful experience. I’ve missed a lecture before to attend an on-campus career fair, but I made sure to speak to my lecturer in advance. They were very understanding! I’d recommend sending a polite email explaining your interest in the event and assuring them that you'll catch up on any missed content. Just try to keep absences to a minimum, and not too near assignment hand ins but I’m sure this won't be a problem!

What's the event, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi there,

I would speak to your lecturer first either in person or via email and make them aware of the situation. If they are happy for you to do this, then I would also email on the day so that you have proof you did not miss uni for an unexplained reason. This will help you if you ever need to have a discussion about your attendance.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions let me know 🙂

Hi Anon,

I'd say this is fine, especially if your lectures are recorded. If it was a practical, workshop, or tutorial, I probably wouldn't miss it, as they're often associated with coursework, but missing one lecture won't be the end of the world.

I probably wouldn't email the lecturer for missing a lecture, I'd only reach out if it was a very small group and the lecturer knew me personally. Most of my lectures are 50+ people, and were often 100+ in first year - so if everyone who missed a lecture emailed, the lecturer would be swamped with messages!

Hi there, I think its reasonable to skip a few lectures if you are attending a one-time only academic event such as a conference or special presentation. It might be nice to notify your your respective lecturer/ tutor so they don't give them a wrong impression 🤗 You can always revisit the lecture online if the its recorded or ask your class mate to help you take a set of notes 😁 I hope this helps.
