S5 Highers - am disappointed in my preliminary results deposited of studying so hard. I failed Chemistry and D in others! It’s the worst one I have ever had! I doubt myself now and don’t know what will I do in future when I wanted to do medicine!

Prelims are not the real thing, the actual exams are much easier. The goal is not unachievable if you begin to study now. Medicine is a course where everyone that applies has all A's, so you must consider back up plans if you can't achieve these A's. It won't be good to set yourself goals which aren't possible for you to reach, it'll just make you feel worse about yourself. As well, you need to take the ucat, which is a medical iq test, which you might not do well in. You need to do well in this to get into almost any uk medical school, the others you need to take the BMAT. Best of luck!

I know they are not the real thing but you get the reflection of what you know and I thought mu exams went well. My tutor took various tests and I did well. This is just unbelievable! It just seems no way I can’t do medicine and i don’t know with C’s and D’s what can I even do!

You don't want to stress yourself too much, your grades should be relatively easy compared to the rest of things you will need for medical school. Medical school itself, at least for the first year, is simply an extension of advanced higher chemistry, combined with advanced higher human biology (I know this isn't a thing but still) You must remember that even if you do manage to get into medical school, you can still fail exams and be kicked out if you don't put in the work. If you can't put in harder work now, how will you fare when the work is far harder in medical school?

https://m.youtube.com/@martinmccartney7404/playlists Watch the higher chemistry playlist. Problem solved. Tell me how you revised for your other subjects because you don’t “study so hard” and get D’s unless you’re revising completely wrong or lying. I can offer suggestions on how to revise. There is still plenty of time to turn it around.

I will watch this. I went blank in the examination hall and forgot. My equations went wrong. In biology I couldn’t remember the appropriate wordings for the definitions. Please give me ideas of revision. Thanks for your help

You need to look through the course specifications for each subject and learn the exact sqa definitions for everything. The course specifications contain absolutely everything you could be examined on. The trick to doing well on these exams is to know exactly what the sqa want you to write. Obviously you should do every past paper including the old ones. To do this use jabchem for chemistry and free higher maths website for maths ( if you are doing it). If flash cards help you then definitely use them. If you’re doing maths, when you get a past paper question wrong then watch the dlbmaths video on it (literally just search something like higher maths 2018 question 4) and then find a similar question in a different paper and see if you can apply his method to the new problem to get it right . There is so much stuff on YouTube for learning so you must use it. Basically what I’m saying is highers are EXTREMELY repetitive and predictable with basically zero problem solving which makes it very easy to memorise everything.
DO NOT do any of the following: re write notes, highlight all your notes, read the same page over and over, spend time decorating notes. These methods are absolutely terrible and a waste of time compared to effective learning. Also I recommend not to work for more than 2 hours at a time. You will see some people trying to study for 7-8 hours at a time, these people are being stupid and don’t work optimally, they think they are learning (They’re not) . Perhaps you could do one 2 hour session and a 1.5 hour session later in the day. Remember, 3-3.5 hours of optimal revision is far better than 8 hours of absolute nonsense. Exam nerves are just natural but if you follow this advice the nerves disappear after the first few questions believe me and you won’t blank anymore. You must start now btw, don’t wait until march or something or you’ll regret it. You’re in the fortunate position that you still have time to change the results. Hopefully some of this helps.
