Liverpool or Belfast for Uni?

So I have conditional offers for Ulster in Belfast- 3 offers with them and 2 in LJMU - John moores Liverpool - I like both cities but I'm more familiar with belfast but I've been to liverpool twice and really liked it. I've applied for Law and this will be the course in either uni that I will choose so the course is not the issue it's choosing what city will be better. I'm from N.I and I don't know which to go for. Can anyone give me pros and cons of both but preferably more of an insight into Liverpool, especially on LJMU, on what it's like to be a student there, cost of living, is it a nice area etc?

Hi @aishmcg! Firstly, congratulations on your offers at both Universities! 😁

My name is Matt and I am a first year student at LJMU. I have never been to Belfast so therefore I am unable to suggest any pros or cons for there, however I am definitely able to talk about Liverpool and LJMU and provide you with a few pros and cons and what its like to be a student at the Uni.

Pros -

Liverpool is a very lively city therefore you will never be bored! There are always things going on.

There are 3 different University's in Liverpool so it's a very student orientated city. You will definitely meet lots of new people and friends for life!

Students, staff and locals at LJMU are very welcoming and Uni buildings are modern with lots of different facilities. All Uni buildings are also very close to accommodations, within walking distance to everything.

Night life is amazing with an endless amount of bars, clubs and pubs. Liverpool is a very music orientated city.

Cons -

Certain parts of living can be expensive but this will always be the case due to Liverpool being a big city. However, going to the student places and using apps like student beans and unidays will help massively.

Accommodation can be expensive but student loans will help with this.

LJMU is not a campus Uni, however as mentioned, accommodations are within walking distance to everything.

A lot of societies are sports based so if you are not into sports, there may only be a select few societies. Although, LJMU encourage people to set up their own societies which can be done easily with friends!

Liverpool is a fantastic city and I have always felt safe whether it's day time or night time. Being a student here is great and I am so glad I picked Liverpool.

In terms of the cost of living, it can be expensive but like every city, choosing the right places such as students bars or pubs and making the most of apps such as Unidays and Student beans can take the pressure off money problems. The city centre is also clean and modern and there are also lots of historic, impressive buildings too. I believe that the pros definitely outweigh the cons and I would really recommend LJMU to anyone thinking of coming!

I hope this response has answered your question and I hope someone is able to provide you with an equivalent answer for Belfast. If there is anything else you would like to know then please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks, Matt ☺️
