UCL/ Bath Chemical Engineering

Anyone studying in these two unis for chem eng? I am choosing imperial for firm but struggle to decide which for insurance. Imperial conditional offer is quite high (2A*2A) and in case i don't get the grade, i don't want myself end up studying a uni i don't like. Both conditions for UCL and Bath are similar and attainable so that isn't my concern. Cost of living also isn't.

I am an international student and chemical engineering in my country isnt a popular career and has really low wage, so if i want to go back and work, I'm very likely to work in another field. Hence, UCL might be better as it has a higher recognition internationally. However, I heard that the engineering department sucks in UCL and the campus is quite old.

Bath on the other hand has a better support in chem eng and provides more industrial opportunities, but it is less recognised in my home country, so i would have to stick to chem eng and stay in the UK for work if i choose bath.

I haven't made up my mind yet about my future career and whether i wanna stay in the UK or go back. So can anyone give me some idea how both unis life is like?
Hi there,

Its great to hear that you've chosen your firm choice and are considering Bath as one of your insurance choices.

You have probably read this elsewhere, but I would recommend going for the uni whose course you like better - which has the modules you think you will enjoy more?

Secondly its about where you feel most at home. I appreciate being international you may not be able to visit these two campuses, but have you taken a look at Bath's 360 virtual map? Perhaps UCL have something similar. One thing I would say is that the two places are very different - London is a huge city by UK standards, has a lot going on with a fast pace of life, whereas Bath is comparatively smaller, has a cosier, safer feel - and whilst there is still a lot of beauty and vibrancy about Bath it is a very different feel to London. Bath's campus is generally very lively, friendly and diverse as we have a lot of international students here from all around the world, not to mention 150+ societies and clubs you can join.

I would also say that one thing I particularly like about Bath is the industrial placement scheme - its one of the best in the country. So even if you feel like the uni itself wouldn't be as recognised in your country, the experience you gained on placement will for sure 🙂 - it also gives you the chance to do something fun, earn some money and if you really enjoy it you could end up with your foot in the door for a job there after you graduate.

I hope some of this helped, and best of luck with your decision!
