No subject specific mentor for PGCE SCITT

I am currently halfway through my SCITT placement and my mentor has left for maternity leave 2 months earlier than expected. I have noe been assigned a mentor that is not subject specific and no where near my subject.

A huge issue is that now she has left the school was not able to employ someone so everyone else in the department is working even harder and won't be able to supplement my mentor sessions. So I feel like I am at a huge disadvantage compared to all my peers on their placements who all have a subject specific mentor.

I reached out to my SCITT who reached out to my placement school and they said that I would be able to speak to people in the department if needed.

This seems extremely disorganised and messy, the department knew she was going on maternity leave so either they shouldn't have taken me on as a trainee or should have had another colleague lined up to be my mentor.

I feel like I'm not being listened to and just being told that's it, deal with it.

According to the DFe you're supposed to have a subject specific mentor so I am confused as to how this is allowed.

Hi I was really interested in your post, I replied but deleted my response because I realised I had misread some of the information you gave. Im new to this forum, and still trying to work out how to use it (seems like we can’t simply edit a reply!).

Anyway, I’m sorry to hear that you were put in such a stressful situation, how are you getting on now? Do you still feel like you are at a disadvantage because your mentor is not a subject expert?

I will be starting a PGCE this September and my mentor may not be a subject expert, which does worry me. I’d be really grateful to hear your experience with this.
